I had to reformat it in windows so the disk gets formatted FAT32. I don’t have a PC anymore so I had to run XP in a virtual box. Ultimately got rockbox working ✨

Went a bit further with the local music setup, and now have navidrome running on my NAS, and am using Amperfy for playback. Feels so much nicer than the streaming apps

Just spent a bit of time trying to find a nice macOS music player and found Petrichor nice. Plus you can install it with brew petrichor.page

:o it works (and reduced from 30GB to 16GB because I wanted to check if it works before ordering a bigger microSD card)

Highly recommend a metal tool, glad I threw it in my cart even tho the iFixit kit came with a plastic one. I couldn’t get it open with the plastic tool
iPod Video opened up beside a jimmy tool and angled tweezers

As can be seen in the photo, the screen could also use a replacement, but I don’t want to fully ship-of-Theseus this thing just yet.

Ordered a battery and an SD reader HDD replacement for my 20-year-old iPod Video, and looking forward to my first little electronics fixing project.

Published the little local-first movie log app to GitHub that I've been slowly Codexing into existence. Recently swapped out Next.js with Astro + Svelte, and I'm honestly quite happy with how readable the code is despite being 100% generated. github.com/abbieschenk/...

I'm getting the data from tmdb. I'd like to hook up an LLM to this for a movie-recommender. I also have no intention of hosting this externally, but will probably post it to GitHub someday.

And rather than a (often arbitrary) rating system, I'm using an absolute overall ranking. I haven't organized this yet, but as an example... It leads to a lot of internal debates.

imo this really illustrates the lack of movies coming out in my favourite genre, comedy.

This chart makes me want to find a movie from every year to watch. (also again, only movies I've seen since 2020 are in here)

In 2020 I started keeping track of watched movies in a notebook. Always thought it would be neat to have some stats, and found Letterboxed too restrictive, so got a little webapp running for myself.

My biggest cooking life hack is to only ever measure by volume once for a recipe, on a scale, and make note of the weight.

I found the first website I built in 2002 (when I was 11yo) on an old floppy, and thought it'd be fun to finally put it online, in all of its pre-HTML5-iness. star-wars-website.pages.dev github.com/abbieschenk/...

As bad as this game looks for them, it *is* cool that Canada made it out of the group stage. Wouldn’t have thought I’d see them in the WM at all, growing up.

With CLI-based agentic coding, I now use the IDE less to code and more to read, understand, and navigate changes. I’d love to use something more resource efficient (I also tried lazygit + neovim) but familiarity helps so much with grokking.

Back to VS Code. I mostly use my IDE as a git diff viewer / file explorer + reader. Not a fan of how files all show up consecutively in Zed’s diff viewer vs only the one clicked.

Tonight it’s Canada vs Switzerland for the first time in a FIFA World Cup, and as a citizen of both countries, it’s fun to be cheering for a tie: the only scenario where both are guaranteed to advance

look I get the slop criticism, but I like image generation for letting me turn dumb random thoughts into images. like imagining a world where Glover is considered such a classic he becomes part of the MCU

Already happier with the results than the curve tool inversion workaround, and it's a much faster workflow than using plugins with LR. Plus it plays nicely with my Fuji RAW files so I don't need to convert them to DNG first.

All this to say: I think coding agents are especially useful for maintaining these older sites and projects that would otherwise just slowly decay.

I originally built this with much less React experience, so I was able to make the code a bit more readable (note it's not perfect). At the time, I wanted to use GraphQL, so the data was loaded and processed on the client on load. Now it's all statically built — no more loading time!

I had a small Gatsby site I built for a grant project that I've wanted to migrate to something modern, but haven't had time to deal with all the... Gatsby. With Codex, I migrated to Astro, and then also improved the dataviz and code itself, all with a lot less time and effort headstoneaddresses.com

Built a little component for hikes on my Astro site to show a leaflet map and metadata. The data (minus start + end) comes from a build script that converts .gpx files exported from SwissTopo straight to .geojson, so I can just drop the files in :) wayswe.travel/articles/hik...
