Andrew Bartholomew @abartholomew.com · 01/10/2026Am I crazy or is that chart using full year visitors for all past years and YTD for this year? The article says -2m projected visitors this year which is bad but not nearly as dramatic as the visual. Feels like an absurd chart crime. 000

Andrew Bartholomew @abartholomew.com · 19/08/2026Recently toured a house that had undergone a tasteless renovation. I said as much to my wife, in less kind words, and the real estate agent shushed me. She pointed to a hidden mic installed by the sellers. Struck me as insane behavior. 020

Andrew Bartholomew @abartholomew.com · 11/08/2026I see it more like tax underreporting in a state with widespread evasion and low enforcement. On the one hand, to pay full tax is to be a sucker. On the other hand, to underpay makes you a criminal, even if in name only. One choice has the moral high ground but it doesn't solve collective action. 110
Andrew Bartholomew @abartholomew.com · 10/08/2026I think being self-employed has been great for me but I wouldn't recommend it for most people. It requires a real comfort with being alone, volatile income, and "what does it all mean?" daydreaming with no structures to imply clear answers. 000

Andrew Bartholomew @abartholomew.com · 26/07/2026Even driving 80 miles a day, 7 days a week, at $4.50/gallon and 20mpg only gets you to $6,580/year — only 5.6% of the 80th percentile income. 100

Andrew Bartholomew @abartholomew.com · 09/07/2026After reading the paper I feel like the conclusions are much sketchier than the chart's title suggests — the data is based on projections of future income and asset returns, which of course reflect current starting point but also have lots of uncertainty. 000
