Asked Claude to convert this all to cumulative. LA only +1% since the start of 2020 is wild.

I think you might even be understating it. $600 then is $928 now, so inflation adjusted iPhones have gotten cheaper.
Inflation calculator showing $600 in 2010 is equal to $927.55 today.

How do you reconcile this with the G Elliot Morris averages?

I'm actually surprised at how modest the growth in (domestic) flights has been per capita. This uses FRED data for both pieces of the equation. Enplanements specifically are here: fred.stlouisfed.org/series/ENPLA...
Chart of enplanements per capita, rising from a peak of 200 per 1,000 per month in mid 2000 to 225 in mid-2024.

This is not quite apples to apples because it excludes the publishing segment (a function of what Fable could easily fetch online), but tells the same story:

Amazon mass deployed a fleet like this into Manhattan a couple months ago. Feels like real regulatory arbitrage — they zoom down the bikes lanes on the avenues.

I also find myself getting Walmart ads for various precious metals — pretty weird!

The Cremator, 1969

The pathetic insecurity hidden behind condescension, the neuroses laundered into delusions of grandeur, creeps hanging by their fingernails to any association, any detail at all, that they can claim as an achievement. Men picking at their petty resentments like so many scabs, mistaking them for battle scars. The instincts of the worst to identify these insecurities and exploit them with flattery and bullying, tricking the weak-minded into parroting falsehoods and killing non-believers so they can feel like they’re strong. Certainly none of this felt familiar in the year 2025, no sir, not one bit!

Something very funny about complaining that RaMell Ross didn't use the same perspective as Colson Whitehead — somehow too literal and not literal enough!
"The artsiest entries fell prey to this telling showiness, too. RaMell Ross’s “Nickel Boys” is based on Colson Whitehead’s unflinching novel about the horrific, sometimes fatal, abuse of Black boys in reform school. Ross splices the action with historical footage, clips from the nineteen-fifties race film “The Defiant Ones,” and the skewed sunlight of sentimentality, smothering the story with a clutter of pointing arrows. His experiments with first-person-P.O.V. camera feel like a strained effort to literalize a plot twist that Whitehead manages with far more subtlety and poignance—and in the third person, by the way."

This is how a product eventually gets disrupted: - A paid ad for the thing I searched for - A paid ad for a brand I didn’t search for - Three paid pins for brands I didn’t search for - Zero relevant on-map results
