You know what really bends my pins? Websites that break auto-fill for password managers. Why do you hate your users? Things like multi-step login processes, bad field names, javascript screwing with entering credentials… if your website or program interferes with autofill you’re a terrible developer

Until we build it, cyclists will keep riding where it’s safest, and that’s often right in front of you. Give us the lane when we need it, and push your town to build roads where we won’t.
010
AB @ab-cabra.bsky.social · 19h
Here’s the bigger point: none of this should be necessary. A painted bike lane gets about 1 in 10 people riding. All Ages & Abilities infrastructure gets about 6 in 10. Separated, protected space lets cyclists stay out of your lane.

AB @ab-cabra.bsky.social · 19h
Most of us will move over when the road opens up. We don’t want you stuck behind us any more than you do.

The good news is that Mass. law lets drivers cross the double yellow to pass a cyclist, as long as it’s safe and they stay at the speed limit. If you can’t use the entire other lane, it’s not safe. Wait a few seconds.

AB @ab-cabra.bsky.social · 19h
Riding in the middle of the lane sends a message: it’s not safe to pass here. To get by, a driver has to move into the other lane, so they have to check whether they can see what’s coming. On a blind curve or hill, they can’t.

AB @ab-cabra.bsky.social · 19h
When a cyclist rides at the edge, drivers try to squeeze by anyway. Then the cyclist has nowhere to go but the gutter, the glass, the drain grate, or the ditch. That’s how people get run off the road.
100
AB @ab-cabra.bsky.social · 19h
Start with the math. Most lanes are 10–12 ft wide. A car is about 6 ft, a bike about 2.5 ft, and Mass. law requires 4 ft of space when passing. That doesn’t fit in one lane.

Vehicular cycling sucks. Nobody wants to ride a bike in the middle of a lane with cars behind them. But on most Massachusetts roads, it’s the safest choice we have. Here’s why.

This @nyc.streetsblog.org story highlights horrifically and graphically many, many of the things wrong with the culture around traffic all over the world: nyc.streetsblog.org/2026/10/09/o... It is utterly disgusting that so many commenters seem to be blaming the child victims.

Mostly its sad that there isn't more of a culture of calling out the jerks. And part of that, it feels, has to do with the lack of enforcement of traffic violations across the board, and the general I-dont-give-a-shit attitude of the people tasked with enforcement.

AB @ab-cabra.bsky.social · 09/10/2026
I get that. What helps me is remembering it’s a small number of people (jerks) with outsized influence. Out here in WMass, 19 of 20 drivers are courteous when I’m on my bike. It’s the few selfish pricks who treat slowing down for a cyclist as a personal affront that make it feel worse than it is.

AB @ab-cabra.bsky.social · 09/10/2026
It’s bigger than cars. American culture now treats rules as optional. Small rules are guidelines, and asking permission is for suckers. Then we shrug it off: if it only goes wrong 1 time in 100, it’s worth the risk. But on our streets, that 1 in 100 can be a kid.

It's so funny when drivers view traffic calming measures as a fundamental attack on their right to use a car. You can still drive! You're just being forced to drive more slowly and safely.

Opinion | The ‘Stalin Boys’ Go to the History Fair
Our short documentary, “Stalin Boys,” captures a particular moment in a middle school education, in which boys grapple with a dark history for the first time. This raised many questions, including: What is communism? What went wrong? And, most important — what was Stalin’s favorite color?

There's a reason why Somerville hasn't had a traffic death in 4 years. The city isn't perfect, but they've made a concerted effort to design many streets around people and not cars. You can still drive, but you're going to have to do so slowly and while paying attention.

Somerville is intentionally making roads harder to drive on. It’s getting results. - The Boston Globe
To make roads safer, the city says, sometimes you have to put some obstacles in drivers' way.
