Football Card of the Day: 1980 Topps Vikings Team Leaders The Vikings went 7-9 in 1979 and finished 17th out of 28 teams in points allowed but apparently they weren't popular enough to do cards for any defenders. Paul Krause and Jim Marshall retired before 1980, which is part of the reason.

Here's a table that didn't make it into this week's DVOA commentary. The Falcons have one of the biggest gaps ever between pass and run offense at this point in the season -- the biggest since 2003.

The Patriots are now last in offensive DVOA. This table shows the biggest drops in offensive DVOA from one year to Week 3 of the next year, only including teams where the previous year's QB started all 3 games. Some QBs like Brees and Favre dug out of these holes.

Football Card of the Day: 1980 Topps Charley Hannah John's brother, Charley was a defensive end for two years and had 4.5 sacks in 1978, but then the Bucs moved him to the offensive line and he became their starting right tackle! Later he started at left guard for the Raiders for six years.

Football Card of the Day: 1998 Topps Derrick Rodgers I had forgotten about this guy until I bought the 1998 set and started going through it. Great story, he never played in HS and picked up the game serving in the Air Force, then went to college and eventually the NFL.

Football Card of the Day: 2000 Topps Todd Husak The 2000 Topps set ends with 40 draft picks and a few of them are QBs. They did Husak, Tim Rattay, Tee Martin, and of course Chad Pennington. They forgot to do the guy who went 199th.

I've gotten two questions about the list of the best 5-year spans without making a SB: 1) What about teams that lost SBs? 2) What if you get rid of the overlapping 5-year periods. So I've done both those things here. Note that the 90s Bills don't make the list. Not high enough in DVOA.

Football Card of the Day: 1996 Fleer Erik Kramer One of the great one-year wonders, Kramer had the best QB season in modern Bears history in 1995. At age 31 had nearly twice the DYAR of any other Bears QB season, then hurt his neck after four games of 1996 and was never the same.

Football Card of the Day: 1978 Topps Larry Csonka. This set came in the mail today, the oldest cards I've bought so far. So old that Csonka's card has both AFL and WFL stats on it. My eventual goal is to own at least one set from each year that I've done DVOA (back to 1977).

Football Card of the Day: 1992 Topps Carl Banks Interesting set for many reasons. 1) Disagreement with NFLPA meant Topps couldn't do most star players in the regular run. They all got done in a "high number" series released late in the year. 2) First set with higher quality white card stock.

Football Card of the Day: 1987 Topps Mike Reichenbach. This is a card that originally did not exist. You can tell from the Topps numbering scheme, which goes by team and then position. So why is the first Eagles card a LB? My guess: this was supposed to be Ron Jaworski before the Eagles cut him.

Football Card of the Day: 2005 Topps Derrick Brooks. This is a beautiful design with the gold foil stamping on it for 50th anniversary but I do prefer years where the action photos also show the opponents. These are all solo shots. Aaron Rodgers rookie is the big card from 2005.

Football card of the day: 1991 Topps Darion Conner. This is what I was talking about yesterday with the crazy tackle numbers from team PR departments. Falcons PR told Topps that Conner had 8 tackles and 7 assists against the Browns in Week 16. The Browns scorers gave him 3 tackles and 1 assist.
