There are these new "super stuffed" Pop-tarts (with 50% more filling) and I don't know where to turn for the essential coverage now that Book Fight isn't around. @tmcallister.bsky.social @mikeingram.bsky.social - hope you guys have seen them in stores. The caramel ones are good!

Aw, man, Rogue Brewing just shut down? That one really hurts. Probably my favorite brewer, definitely my favorite beer. Just 8 days ago I published a book including a story about their Dead Guy and one of my favorite Saturdays playing Gauntlet. www.amazon.com/dp/B0FY1VMCKT

Not only did the oldest give me a chance to demo how the moon's phases and eclipses work (using apple, orange, and flashlight), but she said thanks afterword. That's one for the Dad files!

This year we have sold 31% of the advent calendars that we sold last year 😓 The art is so pretty and colorful 🥺 The facts are so good 🥺 Eels are so cool 🥺 Get an eel facts advent calendar at EelFacts.net
Sarah holds up an eel facts advent calendar in front of blooming flowers on her sidewalk. It says eel facts an advent calendar. It has 24 boxes with orange and yellow zigzags and yellow circles in the middle with numbers one through 24 in the middle of the boxes there are six eels depicted on this calendar, one green Moray, two splendid garden eels, one blue and yellow ribbon eel, and one American eel and one European.

Three dollars?! I have 103.5 hours on this game. That's like 30 hours per dollar of enjoyment, and then some. You will enjoy it more than half a latte. You will enjoy it more than a fifth of a sandwich. You will enjoy it more than one sixth of a movie. It's a really, really good deal.

My next book! The Quirkz Handbook of Drinking Beer and Playing Video Games. It is exactly what it sounds like: lightly humorous personal essays about a lifetime of beer and video games and the things that come with them. ~140 pages. Beta readers wanted. Any interest in giving it a read? Let me know!

I spent three weeks debating whether an essay idea I'd been kicking around had any merit. Finally told myself: the only way to see is to try writing it. It may be my favorite thing I've written this year Again and again I have to re-learn, the biggest obstacle to interesting art is just doing it.

Writers, get your submissions ready. Fiction always hits the cap (500) very fast, so don't delay. NF and poetry also have caps (500 & 800, respectively) though they don't typically fill up quite as fast. Don't be boring, that's the main tip

For years I thought the house got really cold in summer right around dinner time. I'd been thinking cooking threw off the thermostat but today I caught it in action: a pre-sunset beam comes through the kitchen window and directly hits the thermostat.

Gave myself goosebumps while writing a paragraph yesterday. Think I found the last sentence of my book. Assuming the vibe still holds up through the editing process. (I also almost typoed it as gose-bumps, which is a funny slip when the book is in part about beer.)

Had the most surreal moment where I showed up at Helpdesk to pick up a newly issued computer, but Heldesk thought I was a repair guy there to fix one. We talked past each other for 5 full minutes as I tried to figure out why they were showing me a computer that wouldn't start.

I like to think I'm good with words, but there's always more to learn. "Demesne" is deeply weird, and across 40 years I've made two separate kinds of mistakes about how it's pronounced. Adding it to the list with paradigm, segue, and "sleight of hand" as my nemeses.

Chart showing a 44-1 record, with the single loss being the most recent game.
