In follow-up to the New Global Definition of ARDS, we published a study looking at the diagnostic accuracy of lung ultrasound relative to chest x-ray and CT thorax (gold standard). Now up! rdcu.be/Rte4dTNYsR4a

Did the thing that I do every year, where I rank every movie I've seen that was released in the calendar year. Anyways, here's the top 20 (out of 93)

from the vantage point of an infectious disease specialist
I find myself feeling nervous and uncertain before routine discussions that should take seconds. I rehearse what I’m going to say in my mind to anticipate potential landmines. I worry about appearing pushy or triggering defensiveness. I try to determine whether the patient in front of me is willing to hear any scientific information at all.
I should not feel nervous about mentioning a vaccine that prevents cervical cancer.

I should not have to brace myself before recommending a tetanus booster. And I should not walk into a room wondering whether decades of training and years of caring for a patient will be dismissed because of something they saw on social media.

Yet this is where we are.

In a randomized trial involving critically ill patients undergoing intubation in EDs or ICUs, the use of ketamine for the induction of anesthesia did not lead to significantly lower in-hospital mortality than etomidate. Full trial results: nej.md/44EOlxB @criticalcarereviews.com

Reminder: tube feeding for the treatment of dementia is nonbeneficial. Yes, this is counter-intuitive. But it's been established for decades. Evidence & guidelines indicate that tube feeding doesn't prolong survival or confer clinical benefit. article: jamanetwork.com/journals/jam... #EMIMCC

as a pedestrian, i hate cyclists because sometimes they’re assholes and they almost hit me with their bikes. that’s why i support any measure that cuts down on cycling and forces those same assholes to use a 3,000 lb killing machine instead.

fantastic investigator thread about delving deeper into the BALANCE trial (7 vs 14 day antibiotics for bacteremia) to look for heterogeneity of treatment effect 😁 I was allready a BALANCE trial fanboy… this analysis makes it even more appealing. #EMIMCC

a proper investment in healthcare would look like doctors seeing 10 to 12 patients a day instead of 20-40. People don’t trust doctors for many reasons but one common factor is they do not feel like the doctor is listening, which is extremely hard to do in such short visits. AI won’t help.

Look I have zero excuses for this, but the idea popped into my head and now it's in your head, sorry
A six panel comic. In panel 1, a yellow warbler says "Hey, so I'm going to go out on a limb here". For the next four panels, it hops down along a branch. In the last panel, at the end of the branch, it sings a little song. I'm sorry.

The modern conservative playbook. There is no need for the stated reasons to have any relationship with reality. The tariffs aren't about fentanyl and removing the bike lanes isn't about congestion. www.thestar.com/news/gta/for...
A Toronto Star article: "Ford government’s own research warned that removing Toronto bike lanes may not ease congestion, may make roads less safe.

The government was warned that its plan to remove bike lanes may not get traffic moving as advertised, documents show.

In November, the Ford government passed Bill 212, which empowers it to remove bike lanes on Bloor Street, Yonge Street and University Avenue."

"No Other Land," the Palestinian-Israeli made film showing the destruction of the occupied West Bank's Masafer Yatta by Israeli soldiers, just won the Oscar for Best Documentary. It can't get a distributor in the US. Which tells you everything about censorship in the US.

Congestion pricing in New York City is a month old. What are the results? Less crime as subway ridership up, less cars, less traffic, more people walking around, and increasing popularity. Here's a thread of recent stories about it.
