I am going to be working through "Operating Systems: Three Easy Pieces" by Arpaci-Dusseau & Arpaci-Dusseau. Is anyone interested in joining me for virtual discussions and possibly even an audio/video discussion on occasion? The book is available online for free, so the monetary cost is zero!

I have this uncontrollable urge to design a personal website that just oozes Web 1.0 energy. Oozes it.

Coffee at 8:00 a.m. would mean bedtime at 3:00 a.m. and heartburn... So yeah, maybe it's an age thing.

It is so hard for me to watch a movie anymore because I tend to just fall asleep. Is this an age thing or just a me thing?

I love this time of year
Photo taken looking up a Linden tree. A large portion of the frame contains the tree's trunk extending upwards, with leaves branching out visible and a little bit of Blue sky peeking through the leaves.

BRB. Gonna go invent the Pringles machine and write the most complex sci-fi epic the world has ever seen.

I am loving it, but it's not a book I'd recommend to everyone. It is pretty bleak and weird, but it is so satisfying to carefully read and pick up on all of the references to earlier events that didn't make much sense at the time.

I just started Sword of the Lictor, and I have to say that I have never read anything like the Book of the New Sun. If you like bleak sci-fi that makes you as a reader work hard (niche, I know), you have got to read this series.

I really love that idea. One thought I had was having a moon-sized mass get captured and having that event give rise to mythologies on the planet.

Yeah. About the fastest I can conceive of as still being physically possible is a time span of 500 to 1,000 years.

I worked at a coffee shop for a couple years where my boss had an HP reverse polish notation calculator, and it was the one we were supposed to use whenever we were taking care of any of the financials.

So I've been wanting to write a sci-fi story about a planet that gets tidaly locked to its star after a cataclysm and the societal tensions that ensue. I have literally started working on simulation software to make sure the cataclysm is physically plausible. Does that mean I get a new nerd badge?

I am reading The Book of the New Sun by Gene Wolfe, and I don't think I have ever had to go through a work of modern fiction this slowly. It's rewarding, but it's a challenging read! #booksky

My wife today:
A shot from the song "we don't talk about Bruno" in the movie Encanto. It is in a meme format where the top of text reads "We don't talk about things", and the bottom text reads "that aren't the Moon."

A few have suggested that some aspects of this mission--joy, international teamwork, diversity--are being played up to stick it to the hateful attitude of the administration. But I don't think it's that. I think it's just that those things are essential to and inseparable from a mission like this.

As a Christian, I don't think federal agencies should be referring to "Christ, our Savior" in any context. I don't need my government to validate my faith. That's why it's called faith. More importantly, my government shouldn't be invalidating the religions of other Americans.

More context on this #Artemis II image: * This is the night side, lit by moonlight. You can see city lights in Spain & Portugal, & a sliver of day at lower right * The Sun is entirely behind Earth, which makes it a kind of solar eclipse, but w/ Earth doing the eclipsing instead of the Moon: ☀️🌍🚀🌕
A full disc image of Earth, as seen from the Orion Crew Module. The planet is a pale blue, swirling with white clouds and glowing slightly lighter blue in place from reflected light. At lower left, a large brown landmass is Africa, with Spain and Portugal with twinkling lights where the planet curves. At top right, auroras glow in a thin green glow, just barely separated from the planet's surface. Earth is set against the black of space (pic: NASA/R.Wiseman)

After literally months of wanting to plan and track my workouts better, I finally did it! I have reference sheets for warm-ups and cool-downs as well as weekly workouts with progressions and a monthly tracking sheet.
A dimly-lit photograph of a black three-ring binder that has a page with several charts for manual data entry in its rings and a sheet titled "reference: warm up" in the front pocket. It appears to be sitting on top of a black dorm style fridge on a concrete floor, and the photographer's feet and pants are visible below.
