We shared some of our reasoning for keeping generative AI out of our creative process with @aftermath.site. Respecting our players' time and attention is at the core of everything we do. If something isn't worth our time to make, it's not worth our players' time to engage with it.

“We don't use generative AI for art, audio, code, or anything else. We've been pretty outspoken about our stance, like with the 200 pins we gave away at GDC this year or our studio Christmas cards where we paid artists to draw what they thought AI-generated cards from us would have looked like.

We have spent time evaluating/experimenting with tools so we feel informed and understand what they can do, but that just gives us more confidence about not using them in any part of our production or preproduction processes for any of our projects. Among our reasons:

We care a ton about respecting our players' time and attention, so if something isn't worth our time to make, it's not worth our players' time to look at.

It's pretty important to have friction with iteration in creative processes. When ideas are cheap to try, they're challenged and vetted less before the implementation. That's going to lead to a lot of games fully realizing some half-baked ideas. We don't want to be the studio that tries to figure out that process.

Even the cases where gen AI quality might be good enough, it is not worth the toxic association. Our players are very clear that they don't want it.

We worked in VR for a decade. We've seen what happens when people make plans and change all their processes based on potential instead of focusing on the present. It usually doesn't work out.”

First off, thanks for playing! If you liked Floor Plan 2, this is more Floor Plan. It's not a direct port of the VR game, a bit closer to something like adapting a book into a movie. It contains most of the content from FP2 but there's lots of new and changed stuff for fans of the VR games too.
