The "real" world seems to be missing more things than usual. Guess that's a post #emfcamp effect...

RE: mastodon.scot/@simon_brooke/1166681… It definitely helped my understanding - but reduced my general happiness level (not a criticism - just a warning).

The extinction of Earth has fascinated a small, but dedicated group of Glorgox scientists ever since the dead planet was discovered in Qlorpu 2231. "The dominant species appears to have been some kind of suicide cult," says Gnrgx, who leads the Earth Extinction Investigation Society on Bwornt 8 […]

Now I'm learning about the lesson that users have learned from yes/no "consent" modals is that they just always have to say "yes" or the computer will deny them critical access to functionality that they need in order to perform their desired task, complete assigned work from an employer or […]

Instead of defending the use of LLMs for polishing up your writing, we could be advocating for unpolished writing. Blog posts with spelling errors and awkwardly repeated words. Emails that sound a bit less warm and professional because you forgot the preamble of "Apologies for the late reply […]

Brilli-ANT!
An Interactive Climate Adventure for Curious Young Minds Inspired by Aesop’s classic fable, The Ant and the Grasshopper, this playful reimagining asks: what happens after the story ends? There’s big trouble in a little anthill... Winter hasn’t left, the anthill is in crisis, and the ants need your help. As climate change disrupts the natural order of things, the ants must learn to work together. Not just with each other, but with an unexpected friend: the grasshopper. Grab your interactive ant wand, enter the Carriage Works and journey deep into a sculpted anthill made entirely of recycled material. Crawling with creativity and buzzing with brilliant ideas, Brilli-ANT! is packed with hands-on activities, storytelling, and inspiring insect encounters - voiced by famous actors including Sir Derek Jacobi, Julian Clary and Samantha Bond - that show how even the smallest changes can make a huge difference. Meet a dung beetle with recycling tips, a bumblebee who knows the power of community, and a host of larger-than-life meadow-dwellers – each with their own story of adaptation and resilience in a changing climate. These wise bugs don’t just survive – they thrive. Discover how much we can learn from nature’s tiniest heroes in a hopeful, heart-warming, and interactive experience designed especially for young ‘two-legs’ and their families – with real, practical ideas for taking action, without the weight of the world. With an abundance of games, challenges, dress up, story telling and other activities and interactive elements, Brilli-ANT! is a brand-new immersive exhibition where tiny creatures take on a giant mission. Because little actions make a world of difference.

I didn’t have “time travel” anywhere near the top of my “next grift after AI” list. The chronomigration bubble came out of a confluence of developments; gamma ray telescopes sensitive to the 500 keV electron-positron annihilation energy allowed us to spot the inbound antimatter comet 67i/Fermi […]

Many people, of all ages, having fun sending faxes (old school style) across the room today. Not sure what it is about fax technology but part of it might be the sense of achievement you feel when one actually goes through :) On again tomorrow (Sunday) and Tuesday at Arnolfini from 11am-6pm […]

My good friend Pete is part of a collective trying to set up an independent cinema, founded by an arts charity and owned by a co-op, on the site of the old Premier cinema in Romford. It is delightfully anti-capitalist and inclusive in its ambitions, and even if it's not local enough for you to invest or not your thing, I would very much appreciate if you could boost and share so they get the widest possible audience. Thanks! https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/lumiere-romford---former-premiere-cinema/

I signed up for a black-market time-travel tour as soon as I heard about them. (The first rule of Time Club etc.) There’s an hour long pre-mission briefing on how you must be extremely careful in what you say or do as the smallest event could have future-changing consequences. After that […]

It's nearly Christmas and something terrible has happened: there's been a major malfunction in multiple machines in Santa's toy factory, and not enough presents have been made. Santa has a backup warehouse full of wrapped presents that can be used in the case of severe emergency, but the warehouse is locked. You need to help Santa work out the code to unlock the warehouse so that he can deliver the presents Christmas is ruined for everyone.
