I assume it’s quite expensive to live in Dubai and it’s hard to imagine Oakeshott makes enough from her occasional witterings for the tax savings to kick in. Tice’s tax arrangements might be a lot more complex. We shouldn’t allow MPs to do representation without taxation.

I’ve never met him. But on camera he displays all the personal charm of Philip Green.

He worked as a lawyer in Moscow. It is possible, though very difficult, to do that while avoiding any unethical behaviour

We keep turning up to point out that claims of capital flight in response to increased wealth taxes are hugely exaggerated if not downright fictitious. @patmillsuk.bsky.social

An inspired win for Navi Pillay and international law, at a time when it, along with its institutions, are coming under sustained attack (indeed on the very day). Congratulations Navi Pillay! #nobelpeaceprize

Proper analysis now being almost entirely squeezed out by witless vox pops and variants on Reality TV. How long before "I'm a Racist, get them out of here"?

I find myself rather torn on this. As someone who worked many years in an organisation opposing the death penalty, is it better that the State murders its citizens away from public view or should everyone be confronted with the reality of what is done in their name?

To be clear I’m not calling on Zack to step down. Today he's indicated he shares some of my concerns on the Zionism motion & I welcome that. Now the party needs to come together to urgently make our processes more robust & inclusive & take action to show Jewish members our party is safe for them

Davey: What is happening in Gaza is a genocide and Trump is doing nothing to stop it
Commenting on the eve of Trump's state visit, and following the UN's independent commission of inquiry finding that Israel has committed genocide in Gaza, Liberal Democrat leader Ed Davey said:

Thanks, and yes it makes sense that the Greens would’ve been a natural home for many of those votes.

Though on paper Tories and Reform together could have won it? As could Labour and Greens.

Agree all that. A decent result (though maybe worryingly low turnout) in a seat it would always have taken a miracle to win.

Would be a great result for the Tories to finish ahead of Reform given a) the incentives on Tories to vote tactically to either hit Labour or stop Polanski b) a heavy squeeze message from both Labour and Greens to do so c) Reform's campaign here was a lot better than theirs

Very helpful. I said to a friend last week that I’d now be quite ready to place a bet on Labour being in Government after the next election.

Labour will win, by a clear margin, with the Greens in second, a long way ahead of everybody else. About 13% of the 2024 vote on the right: it may be that the Conservatives + Reform both get > 5% With up to 11 lost deposits (including LibDems, Restore, Ukip, Rejoin EU, the Communists etc)

Also, I understand the name checking of Burnham. But he wasn’t on the ticket as leader of his party, whereas another party leader definitely was. And that has to be worse a 2 or 3% spread. So the gap is larger?

Makes sense. Of course I’m a Labour supporter who is quite happy to see the Greens do well also. But I can see why they are struggling now.

There is without question a global campaign to demonise and weaken Muslims. It’s horrific. But it’s having an opposite effect. It’s bringing Muslims together. I have never felt more connected and obligated to my faith or my Muslim community.

Thanks for that. I had been hearing from Green friends who were canvassing last week that they had no hope of winning. Having said that, it doesn’t tell us very much about the sympathies across the country generally, does it?

Also, this really shouldn't be news by now, but a promise on IHT is a promise to about 4% of the electorate. It's only because our media is owned by people who fall into that bracket that anyone has been persuaded to care.

But didn't he pull instead the "I do live in Camden" card? That "it was Camden I made my home" bit on the leaflet? Maybe he got unmoored, or someone barged him out of the way. To be clear, we all know about the "floating voter" but he was an extraordinary "floating candidate".
