Went to our town's pumpkin festival tonight and had my yearly allotment of fair food, including a funnel cake. A funnel cake is definitely a once-a-year thing; any more than that and my aorta would absolutely clog.
The town's annual pumpkin pyramid, which, as the name suggests, is a pyramid made at least partially out of pumpkin

To be fair to the Society of Authors, it is not the first author's organization in recent memory to step on its own dick about "AI," nor is it likely to be the last. It is interesting to note the boardroom-level disconnect with the constituency in each case so far, re: "AI" use, however.

Krissy was mowing the lawn when the belt to the blades snapped and now the lawn is half-mowed and will be until the belt is replaced it is really really really messing with her sense of order I told Krissy I might post about it and she said to let you all know that she. is. PISSED. right now.

The acid test for me is a simple one: Has my professional and/or creative life benefited in any material way from "AI," and very specifically generative "AI"? No, it hasn't. Has it been negatively impacted by the same? Yup, in a whole bunch of ways. My professional life is worse now for it.

Just finished writing up questions for V.E. Schwab for tonight's event with her in Columbus, and not for the first time, I am grateful that I actually have journalism experience and have interviewed hundreds of people. The plan is to have a conversation between us, but it's nice to have backup.

I have to stress to folks that when I say I don't want something discussed in my comments and you then very specifically go out of your way to discuss it, that's a block. I'm not here for your oppositional defiant disorder and if you're trying to be clever, remember what the failure mode of that is.

None and none, although of course I'm an admirer of @tkingfisher.com's work (and Asimov had his moments). The Lock In was more influenced by Michael Crichton in terms of general vibe, if not a specific text.

I would be EXTREMELY annoyed to discover my PR is "AI"-generated, and as someone bombarded with dozens of "AI"-generated emails daily, I assure you the stink of "AI" is immediately noticable and immediately dismissible. Publishers are not doing their new books any favors in using it.
