Finished in 6 days. An absolute page turner. But I don't agree w/ The Guardian's take on our protagonist's "passivity". Far from being buffeted by life - aside from childhood trauma - all István's undoing is his own. Like a Thomas Hardy character, we see his choices, ambition & desires seal his fate

#Shocktober #Halloween My brother bought me this - it's a copy of a much beloved book that my nan used to have in her house, and every Saturday I would eagerly leaf through its pages when I was waaaaay too young, and find comfort in its macabre and terrifying imagery. It's why I love horror today.
