2 years ago in a museum in Athens, I met a wonderful Jewish woman who told me, “With my right eye I cry for the Jews of Israel; with my left, for the Palestinians.” I’m pleased our government has finally taken some action. The violence needs to end, then a peace process can begin.

I watched the Odyssey again and loved it. And cried at the same moments, even when I knew they were coming. It’s an incredible cinematic poem, with stunning images and soundscape, amazing acting - and a timeless reflection on war, cruelty, love and the human condition. With a nod to this, too.

When Sam Freedman @samfr.bsky.social shared his article about why universities were in trouble and why they need investment, a Labour MP jumped in to say they weren’t a priority for her. She may be surprised at how many people are employed in universities and how important they are to the economy.

But now it’s gone. Horizon - the BBC’s main current science strand. Dead. Series 37, 2000 - 16 episodes Series 38, 2001 - 18 eps … fairly constant to 2007/8 then dropping to 9… rallying, but with more focus on diets perhaps… Crashing to 6 eps in 2019… 4 in 2021… 3 in 2022… then just one per year
