This was only a matter of time. In a very real way, the net effect of networked license plate readers is more like putting a GPS device on a car than it is like driving past individual security cameras. And if police wanted to track you over time w/ GPS device or your phone---they'd need a warrant.

Surveillance and Autonomous warfare are an important part of a cycle that siphons billions off the US in the form of contracts for technology with heinous effects, CEOs who get rich and have ideologies that necessitate the deployment of their tech, and the politicians propped up by that money.

If there’s a “Guariglia’s law” it’s this: if ever a company draws an “ethical line” of something they won’t do, specifically around technology, surveillance, or weaponry, there is always another company willing to step in, do the dirty work, and offer the evil products others won’t.

Last jedi tried to make an important point that anyone, no matter where you’re from, can rise to have galactic consequence. Rise of Skywalker undermined it totally and made the triology about how only a small few families matter and Importance is only derived from your blood.
