Forestry officials in Ghana’s Atewa Forest Reserve are being overrun by illegal miners, jeopardizing the water supply for millions. Conservation groups are urging the government to step in with essential resources to safeguard the 26,300-hectare habitat and its wildlife. By Mabel Adorkor Annang.

Illegal mines threaten biodiversity and drinking water in Ghana’s Atewa Forest
Every day, scores of illegal miners on motorbikes swarm into the Atewa Forest Reserve, in eastern Ghana — ignoring the handful of Forestry Commission guards charged with keeping them out. Inside the…

Tis a far cry from this: "Almost unbelievably, we have very early evidence from just after the New Testament (AD 96) that Christians sometimes sold themselves into slavery in order to donate the sale price to the destitute". From John Dickson's excellent Bullies & Saints.

He he. My daughter did something like this for a primary school project using an Audiomoth to record the rhythmic sound the wheel made as it turned. She estimated her Russian Dwarf Hamster ran 5 km a night.

Two of Cydia amplana seems like a decent record from last night, with only a handful of records in VC29. Poplar Kitten was the first I had for some time.

Moth trap was good last night with 122 species. Four-spotted was NFG and couple of scarcer wainscots were nice.

Friday night was good in the moth trap VC29. Kent Black Arches had me baffled for a while. Little and large pink-and-green-moths were resting together. And Marbled Clover got the pulse racing for a moment.

The Western Reef Heron at Conwy gave me and Richard Bradbury the runaround this morning. After a brief early sighting it then eluded us for an hour. But finally gave us spectacular views and some great entertainment as it fished in tidal pools. #ukbirding

Plenty of other dragon action around the garden pond today. And a very undistinguished wetland moth Monochroa lucidella in the trap.

Something going on with Norfolk Hawkers round us. Yesterday there at least 5 flying around my garden in Cambs and the local nature reserve Ouse Fen is full of them. No Water Soldier I'm aware of.

I can't think either are worth considering as records. Banning accounts that post generative AI to birding groups seems like an uncontroversial policy for moderators even though some cases will be hard to tell.

Interesring! I'm sure I just didn't understand this well enough but I'm unclear whether they found a correlation of growth rate variance with temp itself or with changing temp. Is it the temp itself or is it the fact the temp is changing that would drive the increased variance
