Immigration is a big issue for the UK public. There’s no way around it. Many Brits feel left behind, feel devoid of opportunity and functioning public services. But denying the contribution immigrants make to the UK economy is a fool’s errand. Me on @gbhnews.bsky.social

📈 Inflation just rose to 3.6% - the highest it’s been all year. For voters, that’s not just a number. It’s pressure on bills, wages that don’t stretch, and a cost-of-living crisis that still isn’t over. Growth only counts if people feel it.

Mind The Growth Gap — The Good Growth Foundation
What politicians are missing when it comes to growth. Economic growth is the most important mission of this government, and for good reason. Growth is not just a matter of figures on a balance sheet...

Electric cars will be getting cheaper - finally. But we've been saying this for months: net zero should mean everyday wins, meaning more pounds in people's pockets.

People want the NHS to survive - not just in name, but in practice. They want an NHS that’s there when they need it. Reliable healthcare is the foundation of a good life and a strong economy. That is why reform is so necessary for the UK.

There is apprehension about the ability of the health system to function and patients’ access to good service. This may affect people’s attitudes towards strike action by resident doctors - currently 56% oppose while 21% support.

Waiting lists are now the country’s top concern. The number one issue across political lines. When asked what would most improve their lives, twice as many people chose a better NHS (40%) over a stronger economy (20%).

When asked what would improve their lives most, people didn’t say more money or less crime. They said a better NHS. That’s how much this matters - it cuts through everything else.

80% say the NHS needs to change to survive. But the public does not want the NHS to abandon its principles. They want it to adapt to preserve them so that care remains free and universal.

The Good Growth Foundation @goodgrowthfdn.bsky.social · 09/07/2025
Many fear the founding principle of the NHS - care based on need, not ability to pay - will not continue to be viable without intervention. 71% worry they’ll have to pay for NHS care in future. Only 1 in 5 are confident believe it will remain free at the point of use.

New Good Growth Foundation research shows the NHS is a huge priority for voters, and they are deeply concerned about its future. They want to protect it - but for that, they know it must be reformed. Our findings below show what voters believe must be done to support the NHS.

Shifting NHS care from hospitals to the community (highstreets, town centres, etc) eases pressure on hospitals and brings care closer to those who need it. It’s not just smart policy, it’s popular: 58% of Brits want the Government to prioritise local NHS services. @prafulnargund.bsky.social 📽️👇

Fixing the NHS isn't a distraction from economic growth - it's a condition of it. A healthy country means more people in work, fewer families pushed to a crisis point and services people can rely on. Read the full piece here. www.politicshome.com/opinion/arti...

Failure on the NHS is not an option
Reforming the NHS is not separate from the growth agenda. It’s central to it.

Every Briton - young and old - must be able to access opportunity, training and good work. That’s good growth. But the Government needs to go fast. Over 70% expect to see the benefits of growth in 4 years, while almost 50% of swing voters expect to feel them in 2 years.

The Good Growth Foundation welcomes the Chancellor’s focus on growth people can actually feel. We’ve long argued that growth must be tied to everyday life. Today’s emphasis on the NHS, national security and skills is a strong start. Now it's about delivery.

Promising signs of progress on an UK-EU youth mobility scheme. We found this could create up to £1bn/yr in fiscal benefits and is popular among the public. With no access to benefits and additional NHS surcharges, it does not mean a return to freedom of movement.

UK Government adopts all four Good Growth Foundation policy proposals for UK-EU reset — The Good Growth Foundation
Today, all four of the Good Growth Foundation’s headline policy proposals have been adopted by the UK Government.

This is a huge win not secured in previous UK-EU agreements. The ECJ has full jurisdiction on the Northern Ireland Protocol - and the Windsor Framework did not alter this.
100
The Good Growth Foundation @goodgrowthfdn.bsky.social · 20/05/2025
We recommended the Government take this route, as it: ✅Avoids ECJ jurisdiction over UK matters ✅Resolves disputes in areas like SPS and energy ✅Refers to the ECJ only for matters of EU law interpretation. Therefore it: 🇬🇧Respects UK sovereignty 🇪🇺Meets EU legal requirements
100
The Good Growth Foundation @goodgrowthfdn.bsky.social · 20/05/2025
Some are still claiming that the UK is signing up to the ECJ, but this is incorrect. The precedent is now set for independent arbitration. Similar to the EU-Swiss arrangement, it will allow the Gov to set up a panel with strong UK representation to manage disagreements.
100
The Good Growth Foundation @goodgrowthfdn.bsky.social · 20/05/2025
An overlooked feature of the UK-EU reset: the avoidance of ECJ jurisdiction. This is a real coup for the UK Gov. It means closer cooperation with the EU without signing up to its institutions. And the public very much cares 👇

The Good Growth Foundation @goodgrowthfdn.bsky.social · 20/05/2025
