🚨🎥 “We will finally give them the most basic human right: to honor them and lay them to rest.”

Hundreds gathered in Gaza City on Thursday for the mass funeral of 105 Palestinians killed on October 25, 2023, when Israeli forces dropped at least 20 bombs on the Al-Taj residential block and surrounding buildings in Yarmouk Square.

Nearly three years later, it took Civil Defense crews, aided by Egyptian teams, 20 days of searching and digging through the rubble to recover the remains.

“We were able to recover 105 martyrs: children, women, the elderly, patients, engineers, doctors, nurses, and academics,” Civil Defense spokesperson Mahmoud Basal told Drop Site’s Mohamed Ahmed.

Basal said some 8,000 victims remain beneath destroyed buildings across Gaza and called for the entry of equipment and logistical support needed to recover them. “If things remain as they are, we are talking about many years in which these families will remain beneath the rubble.”

Sumaya Bakhit, who lost 15 members of her family beneath the Al-Taj building, said the remains of three of her brother’s children, ages 9, 5, and 2, were among those finally recovered.

“We have mixed emotions—sorrow, pain, but also joy,” Bakhit said. “The feelings of loss are impossible to describe.”

⭕️🇵🇸 “This is his baby bottle. This is his toy. And that is his shroud. I want to ask the world: What threat did this pose to Israel?”

Nearly three years after the Israeli massacre at the Al-Taj residential block in Gaza City, families gathered Thursday to bury 105 Palestinians whose remains were recovered from beneath the rubble.

Standing amid the ruins, journalist Mahmoud Haniyeh, whose wife, journalist Doaa Sharaf, and their one-year-old son Obaida were killed in the Israeli attack, held up the child’s belongings.

“I am not talking about numbers,” Haniyeh told Drop Site’s Mohamed Ahmed. “There was a neighborhood here, alive with its people. There was a lawyer here, an engineer, a doctor, and a nurse. We are talking about an entire life that Israel obliterated in seconds.”

Haniyeh said his family had spent three years in “an open house of mourning” while waiting for their remains to be recovered. “This grief has not healed. This wound has not healed. This mourning has not ended.”

For Haniyeh, the recovery of his wife and son underscored how many families across Gaza are still waiting for the bodies of their loved ones to be recovered from beneath the rubble.

“There are 10,000 martyrs whose families are waiting for this moment,” he said. “How long will it take us to reach 10,000?”

Drop Site contributor Ali Younes, a Jordanian-American journalist, was detained by Jordanian intelligence in August over a repost of an article questioning U.S. aid to Jordan. He was later charged with undermining national security, sedition, and hate crimes under Jordan's Cybercrime Law, and barred from leaving the country for a month.

Sen. Chris Van Hollen called the Jordanian government, after which Younes was allowed to leave the country, and Jordan told Van Hollen the charges had been dropped.

Younes, however, was never informed of this, and it turns out that claim contradicted what Jordan had told him.
Drop Site's Julian Andreone asked Van Hollen for any updates, and what he makes of Jordan contradicting its own account.

Andreone also asked about the Senate's failure to pass Van Hollen's resolution demanding accountability for Americans killed in the occupied West Bank.

The resolution failed 47-53. Sen. John Fetterman was the only Democrat to vote against it, while Sen. Rand Paul was the only Republican who crossed over to vote in favor.

🎥 WATCH: Massacre at Minab: The School That Became a Grave

In the opening hours of the war against Iran, on February 28, 2026, the U.S. military fired Tomahawk cruise missiles directly at a school in the southern city of Minab. At least 156 people were killed that morning at Shajareh Tayyebeh school—120 of them were children and 26 were teachers.

It will go down in history as one of the gravest war crimes committed by the U.S. government since Vietnam.

Drop Site News conducted a two-month investigation into the strike, speaking with survivors, first responders, parents, doctors, teachers, psychologists, and other witnesses. Some of them had never before shared their experiences of that day. This is their story.

🇺🇸🇮🇷 US-IRAN NEGOTIATIONS LATEST

🔸President Trump said Monday his team spoke with mediators working to end the war with Iran, but offered no details. "We're going to win. As far as I'm concerned, it's going to be one way or the other. It's going to go pretty quickly," he told reporters in the Oval Office, adding that more strikes before the midterms were also "possible."

🔸 Hours later, Trump denied an Axios report, citing a US official, that he was willing to offer Iran sanctions relief and frozen funds for "concrete progress on nuclear." "I offered them NOTHING!" he wrote, calling the story a "HOAX."

🔸 Despite his public rejection of Iran's seven-day plan, the US has not formally rejected it, three officials told the AP. Mediators are drafting a deal to reopen Hormuz, lift the US blockade, and then remove sanctions. One official told the AP the US is seeking nuclear concessions, including access for inspectors, which Axios has also reported.

🔸 Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi met a Qatari mediator in New York on Monday. "They had some ideas, and we held discussions that they will also raise with the US side," he told state news agency IRNA, adding he hoped for Washington's final response by Tuesday. He flew back to Tehran rather than wait: "The Qataris know how to reach us whenever they have the response."

The swing also took her to Buffalo and Ithaca, where she held a packed "Students vs. Billionaires" town hall at Cornell, and campaigned with battleground Rep. Josh Riley.

New York "has become increasingly relevant to whether we have a majority or not in the House," she told The New York Times. The tour has also fueled speculation about a 2028 Senate or Presidential run. "I love Syracuse," the Bronx native told reporters.

🔺 Rising oil flows through Hormuz don't mean Iran has lost its leverage, argues sanctions expert Esfandyar Batmanghelidj of the London-based Bourse & Bazaar Foundation, rebutting claims Iran has "lost control" of the strait.

Iran retains "undiminished capabilities" to strike Gulf oil infrastructure, he wrote, and could if Trump won't take a diplomatic off-ramp, as with the 2019 attacks on Saudi Aramco's Abqaiq and Khurais facilities, which came when Iran was exporting no oil.

"The strait isn't really Iran's principal source of leverage. It never was," he wrote. Its strikes on US bases and Gulf cities were "far more consequential" but downplayed, since the US couldn't stop them. The real issue is "the failure of U.S. security guarantees over the entirety of the Gulf."

Someone sent me this analysis and asked me what I think…

Yes, there is more oil flowing through the strait—with the exception of Iranian oil. But people misunderstand the issue of control of the Strait of Hormuz and overstate its importance in the positioning of Iran, the Gulf, and the U.S. as the war drags on. Specifically, this analysis on oil export volumes and its impact on negotiation positions overlooks two more important factors.

First, Iran may not be able to disrupt energy flows as effectively as in the early stage of the war, but it retains undiminished capabilities to destroy stocks, by which I mean the underlying production infrastructure, whether upstream or downstream.

Second, the assessment fails to consider that Iran can still choose to escalate by hitting these production targets if it determines that Trump isn’t feeling enough pain to take the diplomatic off-ramps being put in front of him. Importantly, we know what happens when Iran is exporting no oil and there is no realistic pathway for diplomacy—we saw it in the Abqaiq and Khurrais attacks on Aramco facilities in 2019.

So while the risk premium around oil flows may seem tolerable for Trump, the threats to energy production infrastructure the Gulf remain significant, which is exactly why regional countries are still trying to mediate a return to a durable ceasefire and diplomatic agreement. Trump too, is erratic, and could give cause to Iran to escalate in this way through his own fixation on “winning” the war. Markets are able to price this, especially not when traders are so fixated on short-term price action.

In this respect, the strait isn’t really Iran’s principle source of leverage. It never was! The attacks on U.S. bases and Gulf cities and infrastructure were far more consequential, but these dimensions of the conflict were downplayed because of what it would mean to acknowledge that Iran has such dangerous capabilities that the U.S. was unable to mitigate or degrade during the entirety of the fighting.

Sure, the U.S. navy can escort vessels (at great cost) and keep oil flowing. But the more fundamental issue of the failure of U.S. security guarantees over the entirety of the Gulf remains unresolved, and this is what provides Iran leverage in the negotiations.

Iran did not wage a scorched earth campaign—but it may yet do so if the current situation persists for too long. That is what everyone who actually follows this region and its dynamics is worried about.

⭕️ 🇮🇷 Iran filed a formal complaint with the International Civil Aviation Organization over U.S. flight restrictions and is pursuing the restoration of routes suspended by several countries.

🔸 Iran’s CAO chief told state media Iran is working through diplomatic and legal channels to restore flights, including to Baghdad and Najaf, with Najaf expected to resume services “in the coming days.”

🔸 The U.S. sanctioned 27 Iranian airlines on September 8 and threatened secondary sanctions against airports and companies providing Iranian aircraft with fuel, landing services or ticket sales. Oman and the UAE have since suspended Iranian flights, while four Iraqi airports have halted them.

🔸 Iraq’s ambassador to Iran said Monday that Najaf airport would resume Iranian flights within 24 hours, adding that Iraq had not ordered flights suspended but foreign ground-service companies had stopped servicing Iranian aircraft.

⭕️ Troy Jackson defies consultants, denounces Gaza genocide

Troy Jackson, the Democratic candidate running against Sen. Susan Collins, has been instructed by his campaign consultants to moderate his language around Israel’s genocide in Gaza and to call for an end merely to “offensive weapons,” according to new reporting from Drop Site, which builds on an investigation by New York magazine.

Yet at a candidate event on Saturday, he was directly pressed on the question and did not back off his previous stance, saying he believes Israel is committing a genocide in Gaza and that he won’t send further aid to the state of Israel.

🇲🇲 At least 33 people were killed and 36 injured in a military airstrike near a market in Kyauktaw, a town in western Myanmar’s Rakhine state controlled by the Arakan Army, according to the rebel group and a local aid worker.

➤ Local aid worker Wai Hun Aung said the strike hit an area “quite far from the fighting” and unrelated to active combat.

➤ The Arakan Army said the attack was among the deadliest airstrikes in Rakhine since a December 2025 strike on a hospital that killed at least 30 people.

🇺🇸🇮🇷 Eight U.S. Marines were injured in an Iranian anti-ship cruise missile attack on a vessel they were operating aboard in the Strait of Hormuz on September 14, NBC reported.

➤ The Marines suffered smoke inhalation and possible traumatic brain injuries, including concussion symptoms such as headaches, but returned to duty soon afterward. Officials declined to identify the type of vessel involved but said it was not a U.S. Navy ship.

➤ The Pentagon’s Defense Casualty Analysis System added the eight Marines to its casualty count nearly ten days after the attack. The database now records 861 U.S. service members injured in the war with Iran.

➤ Iran claimed it struck 19 ships in the Strait of Hormuz over the past two nights. Iranian officials said any ship crossing without authorization will face an armed response.
