Donkey Kong 64 contains unused text that would have referenced the Gold Skulltula sidequest from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time as a joke explanation for Donkey Kong not being able to do something.

Donkey Kong 64 contains an unused line of text for the seal in Gloomy Galleon where he tells Donkey Kong that he needs "100 Skulltilleys" to race him. This was intended to be used in the game's demo as a joke explanation for why the race cannot be accessed.
This is of course a reference to The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, where Gold Skulltulas can be found all over Hyrule. Defeating them produces tokens, 100 of which are needed to lift the curse on a family in Kakariko Village which turned them into spiders.
The spelling "Skulltilleys" instead of "Skulltulas" appears to be an inside reference to the name of Rareware artist Carl Tilley, who worked on this game.

These ghosts like to cling to the floors and ceilings of castles and fortresses, and pop out to scare people at the most inconvenient times! They have rubbery bodies that allow them to stretch their limbs and reach far, which also makes them pretty resilient. Not even ground pounds will crush these creeps - you'll just bounce right off of them! Boo Blahs aren't the fastest or strongest captains, but they're defensive specialists who can reach far to save balls, and reach high to block incoming spikes! The Sneaky Surprise technique has a Boo Blah sink into the ground, before reappearing below a nearby opponent and grabbing them with its gangly hands and tossing them away forward, backward, or upward!

Super Mario Sunshine is surprisingly more realistic than later Mario games in one specific aspect: here, Mario will start drowning if he hangs on to a ledge in such a way that water is flowing into his nose and mouth, as one would in real life.

Observe Mario holding on to a ledge that water is flowing over in Super Mario Galaxy (left) and Super Mario Odyssey (right). If realistic physics applied, he should start drowning since his nostrils and mouth are covered by water flowing into them.
However, in these games the air depletion/drowning state is tied to the swimming animation. As long as Mario is not visibly swimming, he cannot be drowning even if he is covered by water.
In Super Mario Sunshine, however, air depletion is decoupled from swimming as an action, allowing Mario to realistically start drowning in this situation (note him flashing red and his air meter depleting).
However, he is saved by Sunshine's (also unique among 3D Mario platformers) ledge tiredness mechanic. After hanging on for 20 seconds, Mario will let go. This is also realistic, since why would he let himself drown?
