The family of author Sophie Kinsella has unveiled a plaque at the CI in her honour. Madeleine Sophie Wickham, who wrote as Sophie Kinsella, was diagnosed with glioblastoma and sadly died in 2025. Through donations to The Brain Tumour Charity, the family is supporting the work of our Creixell Group.

Congrats to the Creixell Group for new research published in Molecular Cell. Led by first author Mingxuan Jiang, the paper introduces a computational & experimental platform that systematically captures protein interactions from combinatorial deep mutational scanning (CDMS) libraries.

CI researchers have published a paper on a flexible high-throughput technology for barcoding cells. This method will allow scientists to map the molecular identities and functions of cells within their spatial context and gain an understanding of the complex interplay in tissue neighbourhoods.

We are delighted to announce that Dr Guiping Wang is joining us as Junior Group Leader, starting in September. Her group will bridge the gap between high-resolution spatial biology and genome-wide discovery, investigating how spatial organisation of DNA, RNAs, and proteins influences cancer cells.

A new paper from the Ali Group sheds light on links between the menopause and cancer. Advanced imaging techniques allowed the team to study tissue from more than 500 women, creating a new map that sheds light on how breast tissue changes can allow cancer cells to thrive.

A new trial has found that a progesterone-based drug can support breast cancer treatment when used alongside standard therapy. This began with research at our Institute by Prof Jason Carroll and colleagues, and was taken into the clinic through the #PIONEER trial with Cambridge University Hospitals.

A new drug for improving the experience of patients receiving treatment for pancreatic cancer has now entered a clinical trial. Doctors hope the drug, known as VP-002, will allow for lower doses of chemotherapy, reducing its side effects and improving patient experience.
