If you think you know what a Sampo is, write it down on a piece of paper, throw it away, and try not to think about it. You'll be glad you did.

Dean Cameron as Ralph in "Rockula" (1990). He's on stage wearing a jacket that reads "ROC" on a faux bat wing under one arm, "K" on his abdomen, and "ULA" on his other arm, to read "ROCKULA," while singing into a microphone. A hand in the foreground is giving "the horns." A guitar is slung over his shoulder.

Wait. There's a little tiny short story on the back of every box of Dragon Shield card sleeves? Is there lore? Is there like a Dragon Shield wiki, chronicling all of the characters and their goings-on?

My JRPG trajectory is, "Hey. Maybe this one will be different. I can get into this." Then a few days later, "Ughhh... This is such a grind. Why can't I just walk from one side of the dungeon to another without getting pulled into the battle screen?"

I actually quit Magic around 1999-2000. I had a brief relapse sometime around 2010-11, then realized I didn't have gobs of money to be competitive.

I've been told I need to be more social, and maybe playing Commander should help. To me, this kind of sounds like getting a job renovating Camp Crystal Lake. But sure. Maybe I'll try it.

"Downtown Nekketsu Story" should actually be River City Ransom. But RCR isn't on this site, so I had to use the Japanese title. I'm sure if you ask me tomorrow, it'll be a different nine games. Lunar is one of the few JRPGs I can beat without getting tired of it. #My9Games
Alt Text: A 3x3 grid of nine video game covers, arranged with three rows and three columns, with descriptive titles below each. At the top, a title banner reads "My 9 Games" and below it, "The 9 Games That Shaped Who I Am".

Row 1, Left to Right:

Downtown Nekketsu Story
Mega Man 2
Doom

Row 2, Left to Right:
Metal Gear Solid
Fallout: New Vegas
Shadowrun

Row 3, Left to Right:
Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete
Shenmue
Cyberpunk 2077

"#My9Games" is readable below the grid.

I remember an R-rated comedy called Hexed from like 1993. I remember it not being very good, except for one scene. A guy is hanging off of a giant neon letter Y on a rooftop, trying not to fall down, while saying "Why? Why?" I like stupid little puns like that.

Ran across this Magic card while doing inventory at work today. The Fozzie-tier jokes are limitless. "Hada Freeblade... But then I got one that costs money." "Hada Freelbade... But then I lost it." "Hada Freeblade... But it broke. You get what you pay for."
Magic: The Gathering card "Hada Freeblade". It is a white Creature card with a mana cost of one white mana and stats of 0/1. The creature type is Human Soldier Ally. The text box reads: "Whenever Hada Freeblade or another Ally enters the battlefield under your control, you may put a +1/+1 counter on Hada Freeblade." The flavor text says: "I toiled in Kazuul's mines when I was eight. I think I'm tough enough for a little hiking." Illustrated by Cyril Van Der Haegen.

The Misfits' 1983 breakup happened at Graystone Hall in Detroit. That building is now a laundromat. You can wash your socks and pajamas in the same place Glenn Danzig announced the Misfits were playing their final show.

My parents had a TI-99, which they weren't really into, so they gave (or sold) it to my aunt. Then we had a Commodore 128, which could easily become a Commodore 64 by either holding in the Commodore button on bootup, or typing "GO 64" once C128 BASIC loaded.

I'd love to do that for Death Bed (also filmed in Michigan), but alas, the Gar Wood Mansion was demolished in the 1980s. Plus that island is private.

I didn't get to see it until 1996 or 1997, and some of the locations had changed between now and then. I was back there recently, and obviously they've changed even more. I'm seriously thinking about doing a bit of a "now and then" photo blog of that film.
