It's a shame that left & non-regime journalists are still focusing on and replaying Schmit's self-own and failed gotcha moment over and over instead of Sen. Cory Booker's 12 min speech in full. What most journalists magnify reflects the algorithms that keep us in the same downward spiraling loop.

'Power is its own constituency. It exists to protect itself.' Authoritarianism sounds scary, but it arrives bit by bit. We're already doing the work for some grim future. Will be talking about this and more at Sydney Opera House's Curious program this Sunday. www.crikey.com.au/2026/09/28/r...

Don't think Australia is immune to authoritarianism
Nobody wakes up to sudden authoritarianism. We relinquish ourselves to it by allowing our favoured government to get away with bending norms and rules. Over time, these bends become clean breaks.

Gloria Steinem taught America that sexism is a symptom of a system that can be changed.

From the fight for equal pay to abortion access and political representation, she showed that progress comes when people organize, build power and refuse to accept inequality as inevitable.

She staged protests, established domestic violence shelters, created a magazine owned and operated entirely by women and helped build a movement that fundamentally changed this country.

Her legacy is the millions of people she inspired to believe that a more just world was possible.

She lived in New York for 70 years. We were lucky to have her. We mourn her loss and will carry her work forward.

Rest in peaches, Wendell Berry. And because I am not as well adjusted as he: God dammit, cosmos, take the destroyers and leave us the artists.
A Meeting

In a Dream I meet
my dead friend. He has,
I know, gone long and far,
and yet he is the same
for the dead are changeless.
They grow no older.
It is I who have changed,
grown strange to what I was.
Yet I, the changed one,
ask: "How you been?"
He grins and looks at me.
"I been eating peaches
off some mighty fine trees."

These data centers are having a devastating impact on humanity. If they weren’t so incredibly selfish, they’d find a way to use solar, recycle water and make these massive creations smaller and silent. Hopefully, the public outrage will force them to comply.
