Matt Renshaw agonisingly missed out on a double tonz but his mammoth 190 definitely lifted Australia out of sketchy-town. First innings all out for 390 and an early wicket to Hazelwood to upset SAs chase. www.cricket.com.au/news/4590129

He was also in the Windies Packer Rebels side during World Series Cricket where he took 14 wkts at 16.07 (BB 4/33) including hitting Rod Marsh with this lethal bouncer to the face, and winning a game with a six at VFL Park on 24/01/1978.

Colourised footage from the 1926 Australian tour of England. The inane AI commentary is poor, but the colourisation and retiming of the footage is decent. Amazing crowds. Also at one point there is cleaned up slomo of Left armer Kilner & you see the turn on the ball. youtu.be/CFsTsPptrQ8?...

I have just become aware of a thing that is an annual series of mixed-code Shinty-Hurling played between Scotland and Ireland each autumn. And it is as mad as it sounds — yes, they are also using their own versions of their quite different sticks.

As per my previous.... Alan Stanford's black hand has left an irremovable stain on the Caribbean, but also wider global franchise cricket. Once wealth, in particular the leeches of private equity tainted the sport, it's now "business" not communities, clubs, and traditions. youtu.be/c_6sw8l3mnk?...

Windies Cricket is sadly once more in financial disarray with players forced to take pay cuts and leagues threatened with suspension. The global game in the "Franchise Era" is neither growing the game nor nurturing it's homelands. The ICC is failing the sport. www.espn.com.au/cricket/stor...

I do love a bit of well executed retroism in sports shirts, and Brighton's effort to mark 125 years of the formation of B&H Albion — and for a 3-0 thumping of Arsenal — is a beautiful nod to their Edwardian foundations, complete with subdued badge and chest sponsor. According to the report by BBC Sport today 8 or the 27 points are suspended for a year, but that just means they still potentially face relegation AND will be penalised next season for a one-off pitch this year, which is very harsh imho.

I know this is a post about current coaching—but for nostalgia's sake: the best England side I ever watched had Gatting, Botham, Gower, Lamb, C Broad, Dilley, Emburey, Foster, de Freitas, Athey, Richards and Small and won England's first-ever white ball tournament in Perth in 1987. Best kit, too.

And as I have bemoaned the same with the Hundred here, once the franchises (ie India) have consolidated their influence over the main test grounds, they'll start dictating to Eng/Aus when and where series are played & if they fully get their way, probably how the host grounds prep pitches for India.

And thus, the BBL was ruined. Cricket should be about communities. Representing your village/town/suburb. Then you might get picked to play for your county or state, and maybe higher honours. But it has long been rooted in connection to place. Franchises kill that. www.cricket.com.au/news/4573506

I will say, the last WTC final was the most recent day of test cricket I watched and it was an amazing atmosphere. Loads of Aussies and South Africans intermingling and just friendly banter, no abuse—and obviously an excellent seesawing match deservedly won by them off a Markham ton in their second.

There is a £165 ticket in the Hollies for the Ashes test. To put this in some context, I just bought FIVE tickets for my friends and I to go to the Australia Vs England ODI at Bellerive Oval in November for £161.

I do question how and why English cricket continues to put up with what is frankly an incredibly poor ECB administration. First the Hundred debacle which is leaving several clubs in peril, neglecting county, no northern Ashes tests & now unaffordable price hikes. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricke...

I know we're unlikely to see ODI's return to prominence over T20 and therefore a return of 50-over World Series Cricket than many who grew up in Australia are still nostalgic for, but replacing the meaningless T20 bilaterals with tri-series as part of T20 World Cup qualification would be worthwhile.

041

Robert Fleming @8bitcricket.bsky.social · 29/08/2026

Great for Namibia and for the game in Africa to see them beat South Africa not once but twice to show they are becoming genuinely competitive. It's also really great to see the tri-series getting some much needed love, with Zimbabwe also involved in this series. www.cricinfo.com/story/it-sho...
