He was also in the Windies Packer Rebels side during World Series Cricket where he took 14 wkts at 16.07 (BB 4/33) including hitting Rod Marsh with this lethal bouncer to the face, and winning a game with a six at VFL Park on 24/01/1978.

I have just become aware of a thing that is an annual series of mixed-code Shinty-Hurling played between Scotland and Ireland each autumn. And it is as mad as it sounds — yes, they are also using their own versions of their quite different sticks.

And whilst I'm on a bit of a retro shirt vibe, dipping into the 1993 AXA Equity & Law Sunday League archives to reach back to the coloured shirt foundations of today's #MetroBankFever #OneDayCup final between Leicestershire (1 title in current format) and Middlesex (never won).

I do love a bit of well executed retroism in sports shirts, and Brighton's effort to mark 125 years of the formation of B&H Albion — and for a 3-0 thumping of Arsenal — is a beautiful nod to their Edwardian foundations, complete with subdued badge and chest sponsor. Probs needed subdued numbers 9/10

According to the report by BBC Sport today 8 or the 27 points are suspended for a year, but that just means they still potentially face relegation AND will be penalised next season for a one-off pitch this year, which is very harsh imho.

I know this is a post about current coaching—but for nostalgia's sake: the best England side I ever watched had Gatting, Botham, Gower, Lamb, C Broad, Dilley, Emburey, Foster, de Freitas, Athey, Richards and Small and won England's first-ever white ball tournament in Perth in 1987. Best kit, too.

The Flight-Lieutenant RM Mitchell, RAAF 120 Sqn, was Australian pilot Richard Menzies Mitchell (407092); he was torpedoed on a boat to the UK, took a lifeboat to Africa & was captured by the Vichy French before escaping from POW camp. He listed cricket in his interest in his biographical details!

Well today has been a lovely reminder of how enjoyable out ground Vitality Blast cricket can be; how the Hundred is a needless thorn in county cricket's foot; ...but mostly a reminder of how badly run Middlesex cricket club has been over the last several years.

Massive corruption - clear Aus penalty for ankle tapping in the 62nd completely ignored. Just like South Korea in 2002 FIFA are clearly instructing refs to favour hosts. Bollocks result. uSA handed a freebie. Also no coincidence that Infantino was at Aus v Tur to see which side needed suppressing.

Very notable that Infantino was scouting the #AusvsTurk game to scout which team he had to help USA get past. #FIFAWorldacup #CorruptionWorldCup

Somewhat bizarre how none of the US TV crews, VAR or any of the officials saw this blatant ankle tap in the 62nd minute which should have been an Aus penalty. #USAvsAus

Effing BBC. They have such an anti-Australia bias in sports they've deliberately put Australia in third place when we haven't played yet — despite it being the norm in all sports tables, the Premier League, Olympics, and even their own 3rd place ranking table below, to remain in alphabetical order!

Taken from @thegrumbler.bsky.social's newsletter (because I refuse to exist on a SM platform whose owner unashamedly does Nazi salutes in public), this is partly (mostly) the fault of the ECB's deliberate sabotage of county/the blast, and partly the awful management Middlesex have ensured recently.

Italy might not have gotten there in the end but boy did they put the wind up England there, and have absolutely announced they deserve to be on the big stage of world cricket. They have also come a long way since I watched them beat Denmark in the Euro T20 Championships at Brighton in July 2013.

In 1926, just a mere hundred years ago, Australia toured England for the 26th Ashes series (🇦🇺10-15🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿). They had won three in a row and debuted the talented Woodfull (2,300 at 43.00) who would go on to form one of the great partnerships with Ponsford. There were four draws but England took the fifth.

Getting bored, and staying bored - for hours if necessary is the art of the test match draw, and is exactly what England should be aiming for now. But they'd sooner lose than save a game, and that's a disgraceful shame. #AusvsEng #TheAshes

I'm really enjoying the old-school feel of the Dean Jones One-Day Cup in the Aussie domestic season - but in particular the old school feel of more mixing Sheffield Shield and ODLA fixtures. I know the ECB are so fixated on 100 they wont conaider it, but Champ/ODC more integrated would work!

Robert Fleming @8bitcricket.bsky.social · 09/11/2025

I do think this is going to be a pretty good evenly contested #Ashes, where probably home advantage here or there will help Australia creep over the line - Cummins will be sorely missed & his absence might help England early doors; but "nothing to fear"? Youth talks, age teaches.
