Thanks again, to @monkemma.bsky.social: "You have to ask why the Guido Fawkes headline, the City AM headline and Matt Goodwin wanted you to focus on condoms for Pakistani men rather than the family planning and maternal health services for the rural women" monkdebunks.substack.com/p/no-we-dont...

No, we don't spend £74 million a year on branded condoms for Pakistan
Tracing the City AM headline, from Matt Goodwin's LBC claim and back through Guido Fawkes to a UK aid programme for women in rural Pakistan

Isn’t this the Daniel Moylan who said words to the effect “Grenfell only happened because the council spent money on it”? (As a member of that very council?)

They did this with the Poor Law: turfed poor, destitute and aged over the county border to avoid dealing with it.

TIL about the Evil May Day riot May 1 1517 Preacher “Dr Bell" made an inflammatory xenophobic speech about foreigners taking English jobs & food on Easter Tuesday at the instigation of broker John Lincoln. 2 wks on: anti-Migrant riot Under-sheriff of London Thomas Moore was sent to calm the rioters
On The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Sir Ian McKellen shared a monologue that some believe Shakespeare may have written. The speech, known as The Strangers' Case, comes from an Elizabethan play, Sir Thomas More.

McKellen sets the scene:

It's all happening 400 years ago. In London, there's a riot happening. There's a mob out in the streets and they're complaining about the the presence of strangers in London, by which they mean the recent immigrants who've arrived there. And they're shouting the odds and complaining and saying that the immigrants should be sent back home wherever they came from. And the authorities send out this young lawyer, Thomas More, to put down the riot, which he does in two ways. One by saying that you can't riot like this. It's against the law. So, shut up, be quiet.

And also, being by Shakespeare, with an appeal to their humanity.
https://www.folger.edu/blogs/shakespeare-and-beyond/the-strangers-case/From Act II, Scene 4 of Sir Thomas More:

You'll put down strangers, Grant them removed, and grant that this your noise Hath chid down all the majesty of England; Imagine that you see the wretched strangers, Their babies at their backs and their poor luggage, Plodding to the ports and coasts for transportation, And that you sit as kings in your desires, Authority quite silent by your brawl, And you in ruff of your opinions clothed; What had you got? I'll tell you: you had taught How insolence and strong hand should prevail, How order should be quelled; and by this pattern Not one of you should live an agèd man, For other ruffians, as their fancies wrought, With self same hand, self reasons, and self right, Would shark on you, and men like ravenous fishes Would feed on one another...
https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/1547Say now the king, As he is clement if th'offender mourn, Should so much come too short of your great trespass As but to banish you, whither would you go? What country, by the nature of your error, Should give you harbor? Go you to France or Flanders, To any German province, to Spain or Portugal, Nay, anywhere that not adheres to England, Why, you must needs be strangers: would you be pleased To find a nation of such barbarous temper, That, breaking out in hideous violence, Would not afford you an abode on earth, Whet their detested knives against your throats, Spurn you like dogs, and like as if that God Owed not nor made not you, nor that the elements Were not all appropriate to your comforts, But chartered unto them, what would you think To be thus used? This is the strangers' case; And this your mountainish inhumanity.

Doesn’t help if the response to the call takes three hours-one for the ambulance to arrive, two more to be seen by Dr. But useful to know anyway.

Wouldn’t it be great if politicians such as Badenoch had Special Advisers who pointed out this stuff to them, instead of them making fools of themselves with falsehoods?

Do snipers require huge amounts of ammunition when operating? And deploying them in a capital city? Plus the security aspects of such ammunition storage within a public-accessible area… Has he really thought this through?

What happens if *some* of the distressed are UK citizens, but have *rescued* some migrants, and are now in difficulties? Do the RNLI chuck the “brown ones” back?
