Was struggling with mapping "Select" onto the N64 controller to play Virtual Boy on Switch, but I figured it out. Couldn't find any tutorial on how to do it, just mentions that you could, so I made this guide for any that might need it. 🟥🟥

How to add “Select” function to N64 controller to play Virtual Boy on Switch.
If you want to use the N64 controller for the Virtual Boy app, you will need to remap "Select". The N64 controller is not natively supported by the Virtual Boy app, and will be shown as a Pro Controller on the controls screen, but all buttons both VB and N64 controllers share will work as intended, both D-pads (VB right D-pad becomes the N64 C buttons), A & B, both shoulder buttons, and "Start", except "Select" which the N64 does not have.
Note: Before anything, set your IPD (interpupillary distance - distance between eyes) using the calibration screen at the start of any game, as you can't adjust it on the N64 pad.
Remapping is very restrictive, you cannot remap unused buttons, so the Z trigger is relegated to only bringing up the overlay, but all games with movement on the left D-pad also have those functions mirrored to the left Analog stick, which is what the app sees the only Analog stick on the N64 as, so we will be remapping all the duplicate Analog directions, meaning any flick of the Analog stick in any direction will register as pressing "Select".
1- Bring up the overlay menu on each game you want to change, and select "View/Change Controls".
2- Select "Change Controls", move to one of the four directions of the left Analog stick, and select it.
3- On the next screen, move to the "Select" button function and pick it, repeat for the rest of the directions and save.
Note: The "Show Other Controls" screens will use the icons for the Analog stick for directional inputs, but rest assured the directions also work with the D-pad.
It is recommended you enter all 8 games that use "Select" to remap them so you don't need to do it again or in case you forget. As of August 23rd 2026, all games have been tested and they are;
- 3D Tetris
- Dragon Hopper
- Golf
- Jack Bros.
- Red Alarm
- The Mansion of Innsmouth
- Vertical Force
- V-Tetris

Tried again and figured it out 😩, games using left D-pad for movement mirror it on the left Analog stick, you can change the whole stick to Select. Tested all games that use Select, Dragon Hopper, Jack Bros, VTetris, Vertical Force, 3D Tetris, Golf, Innsmouth, Red Alarm, N64 VB is 100% functional.

Sorry to bother but when you update the review, would it be possible to include a short tutorial on how to remap the N64 controller for it? I cannot figure out how to remap Select to the stick on the app, that's the only button missing. I really hope they make a VB pad replica someday.
