On the topic of NYC rich people behaving badly: this book is a riot. Sometimes you just need to read a well-written trainwreck. 5/5 recommend 📚💙

I’m not currently reading Agatha Christie by a crackling fireplace on a snowy day whilst indulging in multiple cups of tea and freshly-baked scones, so no, I’m afraid your email didn’t “find me well”.

Ok this book is HILARIOUS. Nonfiction about a sociologist observing & trying to learn the hierarchy of the super rich moms in Manhattan. 📚💙 #nonfiction

Hmmm this really ended up not working for me. It's very saccharine relationship-y until like 75-80% in, there's only one scary scene, and the ending is ... hard to believe and disappointing. 2/5 #Booksky #horror

The inability of everyone to listen to their own ship leader is also irritating me. IDK how they function as a team they seem to argue about every decision

I think it's hard to do timeline jumps in a way that isn't annoying to the reader ...

100 1

Meri @3manyprojects.bsky.social · 03/12/2024

The flash forwards are kind of annoying. I just want to be in the past timeline. The horror elements keep getting spoiled by the books own jumps between timelines ... Also the argument is very repetitive

Overall a solid 4/5 stars for The Luminous Dead by Caitlin Starling. Lots of loose ends, but the cave horror and claustrophobia and sensory deprivation descriptions were so genuinely scary I give it 4 stars. This is a book to read for atmosphere, not plot. #Booksky #bookreview 💙📚 #horror
