In January 1936, the Coin Machine Review asked a few stars of the biz what they did before jobbing. Irv gave a vexing response: 12 years in coinops, and 5 years selling cars before that. This would hypothetically cover his entire adult life since graduating high school in 1918... (thread)

Thanks to the International Arcade Museum Library's trade magazine holdings I've been able to glean further information about the SEGA 1000 Stereo Jukebox. Rather than poast things piecemeal here, this will be the topic of my next article on Note. Stay tuned!

Does anyone know good contact info for the International Arcade Museum Library/Museum of the Game? Been trying to reserve some research time for a couple months now but haven't gotten a response. Tried both staff2020 and library2024.

if you played sonic the hedgehog and put down the controller, sonic would look at you and tap his foot impatiently. this was proof that sega genesis cartridges had souls. the decision was made to make the storage cases a lot larger than the cartridges so they would have room to move around in there

Today's Sega history dive is about their logos over the decades. During their initial years, it's unknown if they had anything like a wordmark, as instead of putting out ads themselves they would usually appear on distributor lists instead. (thread)

In 1962, Sega's european operations was headquartered in an office at Roebuck House (now The View) in Westminster, London. Director Martin Bromley had one of the two penthouses and manager James Humpert also owned a flat there.

Here's a fun trivia question: When was Sega created? There's at least five different answers that could be considered correct depending on what exactly you mean by the question. Here's a fun little stroll through the decades. (a thread)

In their official histories, Sega will often mention the SEGA 1000 Jukebox. The first domestically manufactured jukebox, it helped them overcome the three-way tie with taito and v&v to become the dominant jukebox distributor in japan. But is it even real? (a thread)
an excerpt from sega's internal Harmony magazine, where it mentions the SEGA-1000 jukebox manufactured in july of showa year 35 (1960).
