So it's out there that - with great sadness - I'm winding down my training business & looking for a new challenge But it's not quite over yet. I have 3 *final* workshops for developers (and, in one case, non-devs, too) coming up - all on special offer 2day codemanship.wordpress.com/2026/06/04/a...

A Car Crash In Slow Motion

Since I’m among friends, I hope I can be open with you. I started Codemanship 17 years ago in my late 30s, as a response to being asked by a recruiter for the gazillionth time “Why are …

On June 16th at 18:45 GMT+1 and June 20th at 09:45 GMT+1, a Refactoring workshop that packs so much into 2 hours that your head will spin :-) Until midnight tonight, just £75 + VAT. Save ~£30. Easily the second most important skill for a developer. www.tickettailor.com/events/codem...

It's really a pity. I wish you good luck in the search and to find something fulfilling

I'm sorry to read this, as someone that used to sell this kind of material, I know only too well how uneven it is without a benefactor or larger organisation behind you. It's literally a hard sell. You should be proud of spinning those plates for so long, it's an impressive endevour.

All the best in your new chapter Jason, and thanks a million for all you've taught me over the years

Gutted to hear this news, Jason, as I recall you coming up to us at Wilmslow & doing training in our building where I met you! Have enjoyed reading your tech posts over the years since, so wishing you a good future to come. Any books of your years of wisdom for publishing next? Best wishes to you!!

I wish I could join but the refactoring is almost half my rent(3rd world country). I feel trash for being too broke to attend, not just because I've always freelanced and have never had the opportunity to get trained by a senior so I have skills gaps, but also because how important these skills are.

Great post. I'm afraid that the junior onboarding issue will just be a perpetual crisis rather than swinging back. Hopefully, some kind of aspect of the transformation happening can still offer opportunities to make an impact, but sucks for your business (and everyone, really).

I guess training budgets for humans are plummeting with all this AI nonsense. Why learn new skills when you can just ask Claude? 🤬 I've enjoyed reading your takes on AI on LinkedIn! Hope you find a decent employer!

Wishing you the very best in your next move, Jason. As someone who has flirted with the idea of doing training himself (but knows he is just not cut out for it), I've followed your enthusiasm and passion with interest. All the very best with your final workshops and every success for the future.
