Inspiring: an American women’s soccer team with a name just as boring as American men’s soccer teams. #Equality

Atlanta City FC is the name of the 2026 #NWSL expansion team. The crest is a red phoenix with peach accents. They did not consider Atlanta Beat, FWIW. More updates on the club as launch approaches 👇 www.espn.com/soccer/story...

for as long as the NWSL has existed, its clubs have had to use cool team names with unique localized branding while MLS teams have just slapped "City United FC" on a private equity-ass crest. but not anymore. women can be boring too

what's not unique and localized about the branding?

My favorite is “Real Salt Lake” because it implies the existence of a royal family of Utah.

It's a shame more teams don't have the boldness to name their teams like a Major League Lacross team, you know, like Bos Legacy.

The class of like pre-2012 MLS clubs that have "non-mascotable" names are some of the best in all of sports imo New England Revolution, Philly Union, Portland Timbers, Seattle Sounders, LA Galaxy, Portland Timbers, Columbus Crew, Colorado Rapids, San Jose Earthquakes, Chicago Fire

This was a big deal in Louisville when they went with Racing FC for the women's team, until they assured the "it's important to cosplay as a euro team" supporters that they stole the "Racing" part from an existing French team

I'm going too far with my hope. But if Columbus did something fun and cool like Hearts of Columbus and break the cycle. I'd be happy with that.

I would have gone with Real Atlanta FC myself.
