there has simply never been a bigger difference in vibes than the backstage images of the 2022 figure skating gold medalist after realizing she had won, vs. the post-skate images of the 2026 figure skating gold medalist after realizing she had won

Liu's mood/vibes from when she arrived at the arena and started her warmups, to winning the medal, podium, etc... was she was a completely normal American. She wasn't an ice princess, or a "factory produced athlete", she was having fun...she was being herself...and it was incredibly refreshing.

There has been always a big difference in vibes between people from rich nations and people that are made stateless due to double standards of that’s what you’re getting at.

four years ago, figure skating looked like a sport where the way to win was by driving literal children to the point of mental breakdown with Alysa Liu's win, it looks like a sport where the way to win is giving your talented skaters agency, the freedom to be themselves, and letting them find joy

Those bloody-handed gloves on this year’s Russian contestant… I choose to read that as a silent protest. It struck me imediately.

I had mostly forgotten about the 2022 podium until they showed Eteri Tutberidze lurking in the hallways this time and I immediately remembered “sad girl with mask and bear”.

What’s the back story of the 2022 picture?
