In June 2023, residents rallied in support of cycling safety, after a horrible accident profoundly injured a woman at the intersection of Gladstone and Rochester. Nicole Grendell was there, holding a photo of her son Jean-Pierre, who was killed at the same intersection 20 years ago.

City staff asked me if we would rather wait 20 years for a full reconstruction of the road and the installation of raised cycle tracks, or implement what we could ASAP. This plan is not perfect, but it is so much safer than what we have now, and will eventually be upgraded when the road is rebuilt.

Thank you for your work on this. Here's the root cause of the problem. Dangerous roads should be fixed now, not in 20 years. This city and council prioritize drivers over everyone else, all the time. Staff's response, council's direction, and this plan just reinforce that reality
