Even AI boosters are sounding the alarm on how much damage one idiot can do to the codebase with Claude. But they're still hung up on "the way *I* use it is fine, but..." There is no but. Boosting AI means boosting the entire AI project, which is ideologically aligned against notions of "quality".

I'm not sure how I feel about this. There are technologies with nuance, and AI is pretty much the pinnacle of this. In many ways it reminds me of 2A debates: the camps saying "everyone needs to own a gun" and "nobody needs to own a gun" tend to drown out anyone in the middle.

Anil gets into some of what I mean by "the AI project" in this thread - not necessarily the transformer itself but the ecosystem of exploitation and grift that defines the "age of AI" executives talk about.

And all of the options in that ecosystem have to be radically different than what people think of as being intrinsic to "AI" today. It is possible to build systems that use data consensually. It is possible to build systems entirely on renewable power. It is possible to build actually open systems…
