Heather Hogan @heatherhogan.bsky.social · 01/10/2025My chronic illness curse is I overcompensate because I feel guilty for not “doing enough” which makes people think I’m *way* more capable of doing stuff than I actually am, so they ask for more, so I feel more guilty, so I overcompensate more. It’s a real mystery why I keep crashing! 2540334
Alex @admiringbog.bsky.social · 02/10/2025I’m starting to think about this more as a social thing than as a personal failing. Why is it a near universal experience? Not to let myself off the hook at all, I still need to work on it. 030
Maggie K @maggiekpaints.bsky.social · 02/10/2025Ill tell people I realistically can do like 1 real light activity a day and then proceed to like blow that out of the water because like... sometimes I can. But then I pay for it. 010
lundworksc.bsky.social @lundworksc.bsky.social · 02/10/2025Overcompensating is just pulling up other's deliberate maliciously lazy slack. 010
Linden the Guerrilla Librarian @guerillalibrarian.bsky.social · 02/10/2025Same. So hard to be centered enough to honor my limits. To be fair, sometimes I don’t know my limits. 160

Robin OG ANTIFASCIST! @rokkinrobin55.bsky.social · 02/10/2025You need to practice a bit more self-care. The first step of which is learning to say, "I'd love to BUT"... my plate is already full,. I've reached my limit for the moment. perhaps I can help next week-month-year (as appropriate) I just can not fit that in. use that last line a LOT! 020
Juneaintplayin' @juneaintplayin.bsky.social · 02/10/2025I feel that so hard. "No." is a complete sentence. Prioritize your own well being. ☮️🌊 010

Gulf of Mexico 🌀 @saystay.bsky.social · 02/10/2025Right there with you. I'm learning to say no. It's a journey but it's worth it! 090
Amelia Magjik @ameliamagjik.bsky.social · 02/10/2025DITTO! 💥 And I have so internalized ableism that I even do it to myself because I feel guilty for laying down and resting which is literally what I’m supposed to do. 😩 020

angiebaby709.bsky.social @angiebaby709.bsky.social · 01/10/2025Yes. To all of that. I have a weird extra rib up by my neck that causes migraines. They strike at random, but regularly. Any time I'm feeling good, I work too much and then wonder why I have a migraine or muscle pain later. Lots of guilt. Had to learn how to say no to my wife. 030
Tricia Dearborn @triciadearborn.bsky.social · 04/10/2025Have you read "When the Body Says No" by Gabor Mate? It really brings home how being too nice (e.g. "doing stuff for people" when you're not really up to it) can do you in physically. It helped it start to sink in for me that saying no when you want to say no is good for all concerned 010
