I think a lot of it is also just shrinking attention spans because cooking takes planning and foresight but in three clicks I could have a burrito, hoagie, curry, or sushi

There's also a factor in that, if you life by yourself, or with roommates who don't share food, you literally can't use fresh fruit, veg, and meat fast enough before it goes bad unless you can freeze it. Groceries are only cheaper at scale than a burger or pizza.

They're also missing that eating out has been a fundamental part of human existence for literally thousands of years. A nuclear family is incompatible with the way humans make food.

I cook 99% of what we eat and have a shit attention span. It's necessary - disabling food allergies, we can't safely eat restaurant food. If we both needed to be employed, we'd share the burden more, we'd forget things often, and it would suck. With me as SAHP + kids in school it's okay.

Along the same train of thought, free time and mental energy are at an all time low. Yeah technically I have time to cook in addition to my full time job, but it feels like a second job some days.

I've watched my Z children create complex dishes from YT tutorials, and then eat a bag of take out. Maybe there is a mental bridge needing to be built between perceiving such practices as cool tricks and understanding the same as a survival strategy.

I am 100% ok with a bunch of people ordering delivery because they can and they don't want to cook, because without those people creating the market for delivery foods, people who can't cook for whatever reason have a lot fewer options.

Why would you think this, when poverty and homelessness is CLEARLY on the rise? There's a much more humane explanation that doesn't imply people are just dumb for not cooking the way that you do. Please stop judging and realize that many people simply don't have access or time to cook.

You just gotta hook them. Homecooked food is, mostly, far better than restaurant food. Once they get that experience they will sway.
