Trump’s pardons wipe out payments to defrauded victims

In addition to clearing prison sentences, the president’s clemency actions have erased millions in restitution payments.

They shouldn’t because pardons don’t remove the crime. By definition the pardon reinforces it. @gtconway.bsky.social I’d sue over this.

It's going to take a generation to recover from just 4 years of this most corrupt president in history.

I hope there’s a way to get some of these people on state charges or is that now impossible, too?

Rich, predominantly white with legally shown loose ethics. Primary considerations for pardon/clemency. Somehow these convicted people find enough money to buy their freedom from the grifter in chief.

There only one solution for these people. Hope he gets his due.

One of Trump's few actual beliefs is that grift is good, fraud is fine, and corruption shouldn't be illegal.

States need to bring their own charges to get thw restitution victims deserve. Trump needs to be arrested, tried, hanged for his thousands of crimes, and his assets and those of his kids seized to pay restitution to the nation and the world.

That fucktard will get his comeuppance, they all will see defeat at the voting booth. After the midterms, yes impeach Trump. Give him just what he gives to the American people.

Even with the pardon power this should never happen. This is doubly egregious. No punishment for the person who did the crime (admitted by accepting the pardon) and no restitution for the victims.

It will wipe out restitution as mandated under the criminal sentencing. Civil judgements could, and likely will, be significantly more. Of course, lawyers will get most of that, so cold comfort I guess.

Only in criminal instance not civil suits

Of course. Why would the regime bother using full powers of the judicial and executive branches to legalize & promote corruption without ensuring that perpetrators can profit?

Sue Trump to make him pay the restitution for those victims

He can't wipe out civil suits. They need to sue to get their money back.

They paid a portion of their “restitution” (in the form of a bribe) to him directly.

The pardon power was understood to refer to jail sentence, not restitution. I have trouble seeing the SC agreeing a pardon wipes out restitution. When a judge in US hands down a decision he/she will often refer to equality before law which is much harder to argue when trump doing them willy-nilly.

They needed the money that was meant for restitutions to pay for the pardons
