This is a gross and stupid story that, if you grew up going to Creation and other big CCM events, will potentially have you rambling to your spouse about how charity signups were often combined with altar calls variety.com/2026/music/n...

Holy shit. I'd actually not heard about Tait and the coverup, and that's so sickening but predictable. I grew up with hearing the NewsBoys, Mercy Me, and many like them, and the tie in with charity signups is wild but fitting. Charities serve as such a profitable funnel for this crooked industry.

Oh, wow. This is the band that we all listened to at church youthgroup in the 90's because the adults insisted that "secular" music would turn us into uncontrollable sex fiends or something. I am both shocked and completely unsurprised at this news.

It's wild to me that they refer to Tait solely by apparently being the singer for the newsboys and nothing about DC Talk???

I'd like to thank the weirdness of the charity & altar call combo for being part of what led to me re-evaluating my relationship to christianity and deconversion.

for years I used the newsboys and DC talk as like my punchline for jokes about sucky christian music, kinda bizarre to see a story like this randomly

I did not grow up with that but I HAVE seen every single God's Not Dead movie so now I'm honour-bound to follow Newsboys news.

At some point you have to explain the Christian Rap scene of the early aughts and everyone's eyes just glaze over while they let peepaw tells his stories

I spent years sharing a wall with a CCM keyboardist who dressed like some way over the top hipster. Anyway upbeat sounding music came through the walls at all hours, other than that she was nice tho
