With all the many caveats that there are lot unforeseen bad directions this could go, I...don't think this is the worst idea? If CrowdStrike gets limited authority to hack the Comm of Scattered Spider and there becomes a little less cybercrime in the world, surely that's a good thing.

That suggests a level of judgement and restraint that fits right in with the actions of the Trump administration. Now if you'll excuse me I have to go and figure out where to hide from Palantir drones filled with cat piss.

The problem is it feels like digital letters of marque, and I'm not sure what company will go for it because it doesn't shield them from foreign laws. TBT I really wish they'd just OFAC all the ransomware gangs and make it illegal to pay, and really crack down on cryptocurrency.

Global, digital privateers, with Letters of Marque and all. I'm sure this will go well and won't be abused or corrupted.

They will behave like an electronic Blackwater under the president's personal directions of they aren't watched closely Russia and China and others already do similar things and encourage various groups to target the state's enemies

I think also the big consequence that comes out of this is that if you happen to work at a place like crowdstrike your days of freely travelling the world are effectively over and you have none of the protections that bring a USG employee affords to help you out in that situation.
