60 years ago today, john coltrane recorded "om" in seattle while (according to several biographers) tripping on LSD. the next night, he performed "a love supreme" in its entirety for one of the only known times. idk seems significant?

I believe there's another performance out there, from France. But I'm no expert, maybe it's not the complete suite or something? music.apple.com/us/album/a-l...

Have you seen the original cover for A Love Supreme? Some cool jazz history here

Taco Bell ALMOST sponsored what many people consider to be John Coltrane's magnum opus, 1965's A Love Supreme, but the deal fell through at the last minute so they had to quickly rework the original album cover

Apparently OM was culled from a six-hour session. Release the tapes!

Fractals come from chaos 💫 Coltrane after trippin = chaos out of fractals 🤯

OM is a tough listen. Just unrelentingly intense.

important jazz research! apparently pharoah sanders confirmed that he, john coltrane, & other band members did, in fact, take LSD for the "OM" session in fall 1965. via @mattmarble.bsky.social's wondrous journal of the american museum of paramusicology, issue #18. mattmarble.net/amp-store

excerpt from article: On December 27,2019 outside the Iridium in New York City, Pharoah confirmed to The Black Star News that "some of us" in the band, including Coltrane, were on LSD when recording OM on 10/1/65

From my understanding, the recording engineer, Jan Curtis (who was a country musician) provided them with the LSD.
