Lots of construction vehicles out there, working on stream restoration efforts. 🙌 Check out this one -- serious skills to get that thing down the steep embankment to the stream's edge!

Lagunitas Creek watershed habitat enhancement project in progress

What's happening here?
Marin Water is Improving habitat in Lagunitas Creek for endangered coho salmon and California freshwater shrimp, as well as threatened steelhead trout populations.

The project includes 13 distinct sites, encompassing 4,550 Linear feet of channel from Peters Damn at Kent Lake through Samuel P. Taylor State Park, where over 270 logs and approximately 11,000 tons of gravel wil be added to create favorable habitat for salmon spawning and rearing.

How does this help the fish?
The strategic placement of logs, boulders and gravel helps to:
• Break up shallow homogenous stream habitat : Create deeper, slower pools for rearing
• Capture incoming travels for spawning
• Improve insect (fish food) production
