As always, accuracy is critical. What I said was: "In some respects this government under Keir Starmer looks more Tory than the Tories". I had just spelt out exactly which respects I meant: its anti-protest laws and the Planning and Infrastructure Bill.

Also of course the right constantly call their opponents too left wing. I remember Peter Hitchens calling David Cameron's government the Socialist Workers' Party. It's not about accuracy, it's about trying to shift the Overton window as far right as they possibly can.

I am happy to post the full clip. I thought the juxtaposition of of you and Jenkin was revealing and amusing. No more, no less. I agree with much of what you say. I disagree with cranking the volume up to 11, which I think you did fairly consciously, because there is quite a lot of it about.

Centrists always do that. With no idea of the ever shifting Overton window they trot obediently ever rightwards protesting their moderation. Not unlike those who used to think the earth was the centre of the universe they have no sense that everything is relative and changing.
