The Mayor of London needs proper zoning powers. You don’t buy a property in Soho without expecting noise from the nightlife that makes the place. Also. Why can you drive in Soho? Other than for deliveries in the morning, it should be a pedestrian precinct.

To improve the nighttime economy you could change the ULEZ charging switchover to 3am. If I drive into London for a gig, unless I can get out of the zone before midnight I have to pay twice for one visit! If you change the switchover to 3am I might actually start visiting London again.

I was surprised to learn that London pubs have stand up drinking. In North America, we sit down to enjoy our alcohol at tables. Only at work parties do we have to stand around mingling and drinking and snacking.

Old money wants to buy up all the cool post codes so their children can tell their friends, "this used to be a really dodgy area". They cannot buy culture or counter-culture, but they certainly can kill it if allowed to. We need protected creative spaces where young people can hang out for FREE!
