Torsten Bell @torstenbell.bsky.social · 25/11/2024This is just a gentle reminder of who the status quo inheritance tax wise works for (there’s a reason the very largest estates pay less than some far smaller) & that proper facts should form part of proper journalism when reporting an entirely legit inheritance tax debate 157377
Torsten Bell @torstenbell.bsky.social · 25/11/2024Afterall, the Times also managed to publish an entire article on James Dyson opposing this change without once mentioning that he reportedly owns more land than the monarch… 24887127
Mark Johnson @braunton-mark.bsky.social · 25/11/2024Well done for bringing this to light. Labour need to be a lot more combative in defence of policy than they have been and should be following your lead. 030
RadiantHostility (he/him) @radianthostility.bsky.social · 26/11/2024The vacuums guy or the big spheres guy>? 000
janegooding1948.bsky.social @janegooding1948.bsky.social · 26/11/2024Thanks very much. More ammunition to refute some claims about negative impact on “farmers” of new IHT rules. 000
daveevans56.bsky.social @daveevans56.bsky.social · 26/11/2024Excellent. Have you published this in its entirety? Is there a threadreader app for bluesky yet? 000
toffeeshot.bsky.social @toffeeshot.bsky.social · 25/11/2024Excellent summary, clearly doesn’t fit the media narrative. It reminds me of the businesses queuing up to day that the NIC rise will push them from profit to loss or make them unsustainable; none of these statements survive cursory examination but the media just pump out the bilge! 030
David @mayorquimbygower.bsky.social · 25/11/2024Levenson 3 is needed asap. No individual should own more than 10% of legacy media and they should live in and pay their tax in the UK. Period. We also need a very thorough investigation into social media platforms spreading disinformation and hate and properly regulate them. 060
TriciaDay@day156324 @day156324.bsky.social · 26/11/2024Greater much needed clarity here thank you. The media in Britain is more depressing by the day, I understand what they do to bluff & hoodwink the public but other than getting the monthly payslip how miserable it must be for Times journos to tap out such biased one sided daily tales 070
Tom Clarke @essextc.bsky.social · 25/11/2024Great thread. It’s a shame your party’s messaging on this wasn’t stronger and more proactive from the start, getting ahead of the inevitable Clarkson-esque narrative much of the media inevitably ran with 010
Suzanne W 🖤💚💛😇 @suz4nn3.bsky.social · 26/11/2024Thank you for this thread, it’s very informative! Let’s face it, the majority of our press are anti Labour, so they’ll spin the news that way, sadly! 010
Adrian Lort Phillips @lawrenny.bsky.social · 25/11/2024Torsten I’m a fan but highlighting the distorted reporting of businesses trying to sell their papers in order to support your opposing point of view is falling into the same trap but dressing it up as righteous. The truth is in between in the more mundane world of reality. 000
Hugo H @hugoh59.bsky.social · 25/11/2024Very sad that the Times has been reduced to such shoddy partisan journalism. But I am afraid it’s been like this for a while and seems to be drifting off into the bonkers world of the Telegraph. 010
wirralexpat.bsky.social @wirralexpat.bsky.social · 25/11/2024Not a version of the truth you are ever likely to see on GBNews I'll ask my in-laws when I see them 010
Graeme Purves @gaspurves.bsky.social · 26/11/2024'Reminds me of BBC Countryfile's interview with a hardy yeoman farmer called Boris Johnson in the run up to the EU referendum. 🧑🌾🚜 010
Guy Shrubsole @guyshrubsole.bsky.social · 25/11/2024Good thread & hi Torsten! More on this sort of thing here… bsky.app/profile/guys...Guy Shrubsole@guyshrubsole.bsky.socialJeremy Clarkson, James Dyson, the Earl of Derby – they’re up in arms about paying tax on the vast areas of land they own. Small farmers are worried that changes to Agricultural Property Relief (APR) will affect them. But who are the big landowners complaining the loudest? Thread: 1/ 524561
Gerri McGerriface @messmonstergigi.bsky.social · 25/11/2024A case for Levison II at the very least. 0181
Anisha Nijhawan @anisha-n.bsky.social · 25/11/2024This is EXACTLY the kind of messaging needed from Labour. Poor media coverage drowns out crucial details of who this bill applies to. More of this for the next 5 years, please! 040
Neil Fraser @neil0659.bsky.social · 26/11/2024Thanks for the thread. So much journalism lacks context these days! 000
didizedoinger.bsky.social @didizedoinger.bsky.social · 26/11/2024Excellent, if unsurprising thread Torsten. I wouldn't say this chap is unusual, but his motives match those of many so-called farmers. Good to see the Times haven't lost their unique bias after the Dispatches revelations. 000
JimH @jimltdp.bsky.social · 26/11/2024You should listen to the complaints and act on them. I suggest real generational farmers are given a £10m IHT postponement for as long as the farm remains in family. Scrap the 50% reduction beyond that and taper away the tax free allowance above. So a £20m asset pays full IHT. 000
