I shouldn’t be this emotional about a city deciding hey maybe kids shouldn’t starve all day Like how low is the bar. Anyway, thankful to the people who fought for this.

California adopted universal breakfast/lunch in I think 2022? TK-12, all students eat regardless of income. My district does holiday and summer meal distribution & supplemental food pickups as well. It's made a huge difference, from kids getting to school on time (so they can eat!) to in-class focus

You can’t learn when you are hungry. Kids will do better and this will payoff for generations to come. I know cause I was a kid without.

Tacoma WA PSD started this a number of years ago, I think bc of how many students in the district qualified for free/reduced meals. They provide breakfast and lunch for all kids, plus backpacks of food for evenings/weekends for families for kids who apply/qualify. That this is unusual enrages me.

in ten years someone is going to be like "wow how did Seattle's test scores go up what changed in the last decade let's commission some expensive studies" and no one will believe the answer is just "kids can concentrate better because they have nutrients in their body"
