Alessandro Rigolon @alerigolon.bsky.social · 30/12/2025Interesting data (from Waymo) showing that robotaxis are significantly safer than the average human driver. This is likely because they respect traffic rules. An NYT op-ed by a neurosurgeon calls for a broader adoption as a public health measure. Thoughts? www.nytimes.com/2025/12/02/o... 5211244233
Alessandro Rigolon @alerigolon.bsky.social · 30/12/2025Of course, it's data by Waymo about Waymo, so we need independent studies about this. And as the article says, the technology Waymo uses is still very expensive ($100k per car). Maybe the takeaway is that we should put systems in place for drivers to respect traffic laws, like speed limiters 1333511

VictoriousYankee @victoriousyankee.bsky.social · 31/12/2025Wow. Quite the post storm! Couple of Quick question: Do you invest in Waymo? Has Waymo paid you anything? 000
Riley @rwintermute.com · 31/12/2025I think all we need to do rather than spending expensive technology in an unreal number of cars. Just do what some states require for motorcycle's. But for cars. A hard to pass, performance based all day test like the MSF course. Just, for cars. Can't pass it? Can't drive. Simple. 010
Jack Q @jackq.bsky.social · 31/12/2025Maybe we should minimize the number of cars on the road by enabling safer alternatives. 010
salkrinkle.bsky.social @salkrinkle.bsky.social · 31/12/2025It would be interesting to see a cost comparison of the human accidents vs the cost of this system. Or, the potential cost savings vs the cost of the system. 010
🦥 @slothposting.bsky.social · 31/12/2025Given the number of studies by the sugar industry showing that sugar is healthy, I thought we would have agreed that industry-funnded studies lost all credibility. Even reporting the headline feeds into waymo's goals. 010
Craig Thomler @craigthomler.bsky.social · 31/12/2025We have speed limiting turned on in our car. By choice. 030
Reg @redgmac.bsky.social · 30/12/2025Waymo gave trump 5 million, the government completely agrees with this data....... My point is trump can be bought, no truth in this post, AFAIK. 160
Anonymous Internet Person @mvw2.bsky.social · 01/01/2026Did the “analysis” control for those exact areas where Waymo actually operates? Because it is a very limited service area. 020
MsLupine @mslupine.bsky.social · 31/12/2025Industry funded data has historically been found highly suspect. I reserve my opinion until I see independent data. 0100
Heuristic Intentions @jasonb-ee.bsky.social · 31/12/2025Compare the human driving patterns safety to other regions with better pedestrian and cycling infrastructure. 000
joez58 @joez58.bsky.social · 30/12/2025One scenario I see happening in 20-30 years are cars giving up autonomy when entering city limits. Cars will self-drive us to destinations. That is if we’re still civilized in 20-30. We may be in a real life mad max reality. 110
Alessandro Rigolon @alerigolon.bsky.social · 30/12/2025Just to clarify, I fully support traffic calming, bike/ped infra, transit, etc. I don't particularly care about self-driving vehicles. I just found the results interesting, and cars aren't going away anytime soon, at least in the US 51511
