Found an additional graphic that gets even more of these quotes together. I've kept "I hate myself, I hate clover, and I hate bees" pinned above my desk since I first started studying evolutionary biology as an undergraduate. So relatable to get extremely frustrated with your study system.
Image of Charles Darwin quotes, with the recipient of the letter and the date the letter was written. He said "I hate every wave of the ocean" to W.D. Fox on 15 February 1836, "Oh my God how I do hate species and varieties" to J.D. Hooker in 11 March 1858, "I am very tired, very stomachy, and hate nearly the whole world" to Thomas Huxley on 10 September 1860, "I am very poorly today and very stupid and hate everybody and everything" to Charles Lyell on 1 October 1861, "I hate myself, I hate clover, and I hate bees" to John Lubbock on 3 September 1862, and "I am languid and bedeviled and hate writing and hate everybody" to J.D. Hooker on 23 June 1863.

Come inject a spider with me! The aim is to knockdown a target gene by introducing dsRNA to adult females to see any developmental defects in her embryos 🥚🕷️ No animals were harmed unnecessarily 💚 #biology #PhDlife #EvoDevo @mcgregorlab.bsky.social

The second paper from my PhD is now published and available to read! 🥳 Huge thanks to Javi and Beñat for doing those all important final experiments, and to @mcgregorlab.bsky.social and @nuneslab.bsky.social for the continuous support and trust to let me pursue this "side project".

The lab is delighted to release the first genome for the giant American vinegaroon! The slowly-evolving order Uropygi captures the strongest signature yet of the arachnopulmonate whole genome duplication. #biodiversity #genomics academic.oup.com/jhered/advan...

Come look at some cute spider embryos with stunning 🧬expression with me! This gene is very exciting, and will be a major part of my PhD research! Watch this space for new updates🔬 @mcgregorlab.bsky.social #EvoDevo #Biology #phdlife
