Some thoughts on Space X's intrusion in to Vermilion parish.
We've already seen decades of decline in our coastal marsh and duck populations across south Louisiana. Before the first rocket is even launched out of Vermilion parish, disturbance of the Space X site will set in motion ecological cascades that will harm far more than the water, plants and wildlife. Without ducks, without fish, without crabs, what reason is there to have a camp? And while you may not be inclined to shed tears for some hunters and anglers, without camps, there's no weekends at the camp. Those precious few days and nights of the year with your kids, grandkids, parents, grandparents, and friends. Without ducks, there's no camps, and without camps there's no card games. No generational passage of stories, jokes and recipes. And like our songs and our French language, without that generational passage, your culture disappears, eroding imperceptibly like our coast, until you stand there decades laterwondering where it all went. You lose your community. When that community scatters to other parts of the world, whether it's from Pecan Island, or other areas of our coast that will inevitably feel the effects of climate change and a rising sea, will you be able to remember those recipes? Will you remember the stories? Will your kids hear it from you the same way your nonc would've told it? Will you bother to speak the language when no one else around you in your new home does? Will your kids understand the lyrics to the song if they don't know the language? Will they know what that girl's hair smells like if they don't know how to waltz? Would Cajun music still be considered Cajun if the lyrics were sung in English by a band in Colorado? Before you welcome these developments and whatever jobs they may or may not bring, ask yourself what you're willing to give up for it. Because this ain't just about some ducks and some camps. It's just the next step.

This is why the vibecession meme is so toxic. Centrists think that Biden did everything right and the voters failed him and must be punished. In reality it was a bunch of half measures that were pointed out to be half measures at the time. They're going to use that failure to not do shit next time.

In private calls to local leaders across southern Lebanon, Israeli military officials have assured several Christian and Druse communities that they could remain in the evacuation zone. They have pressed them, however, to force out any Lebanese from neighboring Shiite Muslim communities who have sought refuge among them as Israeli bombardment flatten Shiite towns, according to local Christian, Druse and Shiite leaders who spoke to The New York Times.
