i think it's very cool to get an email from nelnet at 7am saying that i sent in an income-driven repayment plan application (i didnt), and then see that there's currently maintenance on said application happening. very cool!

xkeeper's post in the somethingawful thread "Cut Content & Beta Discoveries". she is quoting someone asking "So they're getting DDOSed literally because some pro-AI loser had a tantrum?", and replying:

Sort of. The sequence of events goes something like this:

- AI bro visits our site with Claude and gets pranked.
- He gets really mad and starts a Twitter thread about how he's trying to get us shut down, sending notices to our host, etc etc etc, making up stories about how our site wiped his drive because his LLM is stupid
- Shortly after, our server is hit by DDoS traffic (that, as of now, hasn't let up at all)
- 3+ days of mitigations, migrations, and migraines working around this, all while multiple other people (including an Australian Blockchain Specialist whose biggest claim to infame was getting arrested for being a COVID lockdown protest ringleader) also submit spurious abuse reports to our host

(like no shit, this guys was literally "i don't think you investigated this enough and the github repo documenting this abuse disappeared under ~mysterious circumstances~ but thankfully i backed up the repo and here it is again so you can properly research this malware website)

- now we're on clodflare batting away people who try to download the entire website again

this whole saga has been a complete clown show and whenever i get around to writing up the "post mortem" it's going to be very hard to conceal my annoyance with fastly and some other providers

finally figured out what all of the gross ass ai food flyers remind me of

elevator room of Norfair in the original metroid. samus is on the elevator platform with two little purple demon dude statues on the ends of it. the tileset is composed of purple-pink bubbles, with some looking like they're dripping from each other. Very much would set off someone's trypophobia

Norfair as shown in Zero Mission. Instead of purple-pink, the bubbles shown in this room are green-blue, with a glassy, marble appearance. However they look more like eyes.

comes from the original marathon games, which had huge scopes on the magnums, but no zoom function (another neurotypical fun fact is the halo project lead went in last minute to bump up the magnum's damage, which is why it's Like That)
