Not to spoil it for anyone but I tried the double-mouse-double-click with a Bluetooth mouse on Windows, and what do you know? It double-clicked. Or... Double-cloak?

"Dipping the hand with the fingers stretched out in lac, or red dye, or flour-water, and striking the wet hand on the ground or on a wall, calling out "What shall it be?" and showing the form required—elephants, horses, etc.."

Me and my sibling were wondering what the "what shall it be" game is... And couldn't find any reliable answer. I get the gist of it but not sure if there's a modern analogue or what the logistics of playing it would be. Thought this would be up your alley!

I heard about a new automatic dog feeder that can read your dogs' different tags to ensure each dog only gets fed once. Oh really? How does that work? Arf ID (read RFID)

you're holding it up, so there is no "up and down". That's right but I think she's overthinking it. It's all relative to the plane.

Wilson @zoo804.bsky.social · 15/01/2026
I asked my wife about this and she said she always learned it the same way: textbooks/teachers use X as left/right and Y as up/down on the plane of the page, then when they move on to 3d, Z becomes in/out. She also said it's always relative because sometimes the book is flat on a table or sometimes

Of course this is subjective too. Mario is a "y is up" game. Zelda (the old ones) are "y is north"/from above. Pac Man is... Actually, Pac Man is all kinds of messed up in terms of perspective. The maze is from above (I think?) but the Man himself is shown from the side). Who knows about Pac Man.

I think it's a video game thing. 2D video games usually (but not always) have the Y axis (up and down the screen) as up and down (jump makes your guy go UP the Y axis). I.e. "side scrolling". Adding a brand new third dimension? That's in and out (orthogonal to the plane of the screen), call that Z.

I wonder why Ernie didn't just say "trumpet"? Did he have a specific gripe with cornets? Or maybe the word cornet is just funnier.

If you're a one-album-at-a-time person like me, streaming services make no sense for you. I listened to Wave by Antonio Carlos Jobim every day for like a month. I could have bought it instead! Or just got it free from the library.

Society never should have fallen for the wicked temptation of so-called "streaming services". They have jazz CDs at the library!

Who can say if his success is wholly, or only partially, attributable to his watch? But one thing was made clear. The people of New York have overwhelmingly voiced their support for a watch and to a lesser extent a city that everyone can afford.

If I can, I think I'll let these Miis stay here on this Wii and just copy my own Miis and game saves over. These orphaned Miis can join my family-- or are they adopting us? Sure, maybe these people didn't cherish their Wii as much as I did, but I think they deserve to be preserved.

Wilson @zoo804.bsky.social · 11/10/2025
This Wii has been dormant for years. Some of the people with Miis on here could be dead now, but they are still alive inside this Wii. I know there are a few ghosts on my Wii. I need to transfer the data over. I'm not sure what to do. I would feel bad wiping the memory I think.

Wilson @zoo804.bsky.social · 11/10/2025
When I look at the Miis on here, I have to wonder-- where are they now? Do they know their Wii was sold on eBay for $25? Do they have fond memories of the Wii? Do they ever miss it? There's a whole family on here and I can see every time each of them played Wii Sports or Wii Fit.

Wilson @zoo804.bsky.social · 11/10/2025
The disc drive in my childhood Wii died, so I replaced it. The Wii, I mean. Wiis are so abundant they aren't really worth fixing right now. Anyway, I bought the cheapest, dirtiest Wii on eBay. No cords, no controllers, missing all the plastic flaps. But it was somebody's family Wii.

Ever wonder why most people need glasses? Well, it's because we evolved to be naturally nearsighted for our own mental health. You don't need to worry about whatever's going on there.

I was hoping it would reel the tape back in with a consistent speed via clockwork (to let them mark how long it takes for it to slurp the tape back up). The pendulum idea is more educational though, and they can just rebrand a normal tape measure. Clever how they repurpose existing products!
