🧵Rievaulx Abbey, nestled in a secluded valley within the North York Moors, stands as one of England’s most powerful symbols of monastic architectural grandeur. Founded in 1131 by Cistercian monks, it quickly grew into one of the wealthiest and most influential monasteries in Europe,
An aerial view of Rievaulx Abbey, a ruined Cistercian monastery located near Helmsley in the North York Moors National Park. The Abbey Church, the main cruciform structure dominating the upper section of the image is uniquely, oriented north-south rather than the traditional east-west, a modification forced by the steep and narrow valley landscape. The long arm extending to the right is the magnificent, light-stone Gothic presbytery built in the 1220s, while the shorter western end to the left consists of the simpler, 1140s Romanesque nave, The large, open green square surrounded by pathways directly adjacent to the church. This central courtyard served as the literal and social hub connecting all major living and working quarters of the abbey. The East Range (Chapter House) is located to the right of the cloister, featuring an unusual apsidal (rounded) east end foundation jutting outward, which is unusual for a Cistercian layout. The foundations visible along the bottom edge of the cloister courtyard once housed the great dining hall, aligned perpendicular to the cloister to optimise space .Image Adobe Images

With my best Count Dogula impression, here’s my offering for Heidi’s #SpookySeason. Happy #TerrierTuesday and #TongueOutTuesday to all! 🧡 #SchnauzerGang #DogsOfBluesky #Halloween
Hugo, the black and grey Miniature Schnauzer is sat down with his head tilted slightly to the side looking at the camera.

He is wearing a Dracula cloak that a friend gave him, with red lining and black outer. The collar sits high around his head. The hilarity this caused in the house as he ran about with this on, was too much. Surprisingly he didn’t seem to mind it as it is really light. Hugo plans to wear this at the SchnauzerFest walk on Halloween this year.

Hugo is sat on a cream carpet and against a white wall and door.

October is the 10th month. ‘October’ means “8th month.” In the first calendar used in ancient Rome, the year had only ten months, starting in March and ending in December. The extra period between December and March was not considered part of the series of months.

A photo looking directly down onto a weathered stone flagged pavement yesterday.
There are two flying saucer sweets randomly dropped onto the floor.
The small, domed, circular rice paper sweets are around 2 inches in circumference . One is pale blue and the other a pale orange.
The retro sweets are known as flying saucers and have sherbert inside and are sweet, claggy and taste of nothing really 😁

The Anglo-Scottish border, first agreed at the Treaty of York on this day 1237, has proved one of Europe’s most enduring national land boundaries. The only modifications have been to the 'Debatable Lands’ north of Carlisle and to Berwick-upon-Tweed, retaken by England in 1482.

Eight Days in September 1066 - 6. Legacy The events of 1066 are often presented as the moment when England’s Scandinavian past came to an end. In Yorkshire, however, that is far too simple. The defeat of Harald Hardrada at Stamford Bridge ended the last great Scandinavian invasion, but
